Chapter 33 - Gala Days and Nights

Eventually, after all the posters, advertising and arangements had been made, the c0ncert was finally able to go ahead. Equally, 'Sigi's graduation takes place, with 'uncle' Jim attending - and finally the 'inaugural' wrestling show is staged at a packed 'California Combat Club'.

Penthouse Cinema - Boy on a Dolphin - Las Vegas - Nevada
Back at the Penthouse, Ethan and Teddy, in the home cinema, were going through some movies looking for possible songs.
"So why didn't you 'come clean' with Faunus about what the choice of songs was really about ?", Teddy asked.
"It's not his business...", Ethan said petulantly.
"OK, it's up to you... but I think it's a very nice gesture, that is if you ever get the courage to tell Jim.", Teddy said.
"OK... now let's drop the subject.", Ethan said, beginning to sulk.
"So what about this one ?", Teddy asked.
"At least you're getting nearer to the actual meaning - 'the boy whom the god's enchanted... yes ?", Teddy persisted.
"Maybe - it's a very nice melody.", Ethan replied.
"Well make up your mind soon... we're running out of time.", Teddy said.
'Boy on a Dolphin' is a 1957 20th Century Fox romantic film, set in Greece, and shot in DeLuxe Color and CinemaScope. It was, based on the novel of the same name by David Divine.
So Ethan was out of bed early, which was very unusual for him.
At breakfast Jim asked if he could accompany Ethan to the 'Park Theater' and watch a rehearsal.
"Well I'd like you to come very much, but we're rehearsing a new piece, which Teddy and I spent most of the night orchestrating - so we really need to concentrate - so, no spectators.", Etha explained.
Jim was puzzled, but said nothing.
He couldn't remember when Ethan hadn't wanted to be with him.
Anyway, after Ethan left with Teddy, Jim got Chuck to drive him to the Club Athena where he had a long, boring meeting with Franklin and Josh.
Park Theater - Exterior - Las Vegas - Nevada
Once at the Park Theater, Ethan got to work.
Ethan rounded up a many bellhops as he could find, opened the trunk (UK boot) of his Cadillac, and gave each bellhop a number of folders of orchestral scores to take to the orchestra pit in the 'Park Theater'.
While the orchestra leader arranged for the folders to be distribute to the various players, Ethan settled Teddy on the conductor's desk.
Eventually all the members of the orchestra assembled - and then began to look through the new music.
There was some murmuring - and probably moaning - at being presented with new, and difficult material so close the the actual concert - but once Ethan mounted the podium there was complete silence.
"I'm sorry to give you a difficult piece to deal with so close to the concert, but this piece came to my attention last night, and it is of particular relevance to the person to whom this concert is dedicated.", Ethan began.
There was a barely audible cough from the front row of the first violins.
"Excuse me Sir, but may we know the name of the person to whom this concert is dedicated ?", the leader of the orchestra diffidently asked.
"Well, the owner of the Hotel and the Theatre - Mr Johnson - of course.", Ehan replied.
"I see, thank you Sir", the leader replied.
Ethan then started the preamble once again...
"But to continue... this new piece is part of the soundtrack - composed by Hugo Friedhofer for a 20th Century Fox movie, made in Greece in 1957, called 'Boy on a Dolphin'.
Boy on a Dolphin - Hydra - Greece
You must visualise the setting underwater, where a young girl is diving for sponges, and discovers an ancient Greek wreck.
On the wreck is a large golden statue of a boy riding on the back of a bronze dolphin.
There is, apparently, a legend associated with the 'boy on the dolphin'  - and it is explained by the words of a song - and this music that you will be playing forms part of the setting of the song...

There's a tale that they tell of a dolphin
And a boy made of gold.
With the shells and the pearls in the deep,
He has lain many years fast asleep'.
If 'the Boy whom the Gods have Enchanted',
Should arise from the sea,
Then the wish of my heart could be granted,
I would wish that you loved only me."

There was total silence in the huge theater.
"So let's start..", Ethan said, as he tapped the conductor's desk with his baton.
And then it was as if the past - their past - the past of a magical Greece - the ancient world made anew, had flooded into the theater as the first phrases of the music were played.
And you could almost hear the tritones, the nereides, the fauns and satyrs, as they seemingly scampered and gambolled in the auditorium.
And as the rehearsal began, quietly 'the boy whom the gods have enchanted' entered the theater, and took a seat at the back - and listened, transfixed.
Just before the conclusion of the piece, the 'visitor' rose from his seat and left the auditorium.
And just after Ethan brought his baton down on the final bar, Teddy said, very quietly...
"So did you see Jim ?".
"No... where...? I was too busy conducting and reading the score - why didn't you tell me ?", Ethan said, sounding confused and excited at the same time.
Ethan looked at Teddy, and Teddy looked at Ethan.
"Ladies and gentlemen... that was excellent...", Ethan then said, addressing the orchestra.
"So now I suggest a short break before we continue rehearsing.", and with that, Ethan picked up Teddy and quickly left the podium.
"So where are we going ?", Teddy asked.
Ethan and Teddy's Office - Park Hotel - Las Vegas - Nevada
"Up to our office - maybe Jim's waiting for us up there.", Ethan replied.
"But Jim doesn't know we have an office here.", Teddy sensibly pointed out.
"Well he could ask someone.", Ethan said.
Teddy didn't bother to point out that no one else in the hotel knew that they had an office, as it was their 'secret' HQ, and just let Ethan carry on.
And so they arrived at their office - but, not surprisingly, Jim wasn't there.
"So now what do we do ?", Ethan asked.
And then there was a knock on the door.
Ethan opened the door, expecting it to be Jim, but it was the 'nice advertising-thingy-guys' with their completed posters.
'So how did these guys know to come here ?', Ethan said to himself - but obviously got no answer.
"Hi, good of you guys to come by, but I can't give you much time as I'm in the middle of a rehearsal.", said out loud, still puzzled.
Concert Poster with Stars
Concert Poster without Stars
So they unrolled their completed posters.
Two versions were offered.
"So...which one ?", Ethan asked as if he was talking to himself - and almost imperceptibly Teddy's paw pointed to the poster without stars.
"Well, I think the simpler version, without stars, has more impact...", Ethan said after a brief pause.
"OK - so go to the lobby, ask to see Evans, the manager, and tell him that I've approved the concert poster that I indicated, and he'll make arangements for quantities and payments - and thanks". Ethan said to the 'nice advertising-thingy-guys'.
And with that Ethan picked up Teddy, and sprinted back to the 'Park Theater'.
On his return to the theater, Ethan was surprised by applause from the archestra as he stepped up onto the podium.
"Sorry I left you so long, but there was some important business for me - poster designs for the concert...", Ethan said apologetically.
"But what was the applause for ?", Ethan asked.
"Just an indication of our appreciation for your latest orchestration, Sir.", the leader of the orchestra explained.
"Well that very nice of you all, but can we get on with the rehearsal.
The new piece needs to be played through  again - and a little more delicately.", Ethan said.
The next rendition was almost perfect, but Ethan realised that a chorus was needed, and so he brought the rehearsal to an end and started making arangements to hire singers - which would mean yet another delay.
But eventually, after seemingly endless rehearsals Ethan was able to produce a perfect performance - which hopefully could be repeated at the actual concert.
After hearing the music that Ethan had prepared for the concert, Jim was feeling uneasy, and asked Chuck to drive him to the 'Villa Athena'.

On the way he stopped off at 'Spring Palms' in Henderson, to see how 'Sigi' was getting on with furnishing the new house.
'Sigi's' Dining Room Furniture - Spring Palms - Henderson - Nevada
There were lots of workmen around, painting and decorating, and the dining suite that 'Sigi had chosen had just been delivered.
The marble flooring had already been laid, and the room had been painted, so once the 'dining suite' had been installed, the dining-room was practically complete.
"I hope you don't think it's too modern or 'cheap' looking, uncle Jim...", 'Sigi' said.
"I told you before...It's furniture for your home so it's your choice.", Jim replied - rather abstractly - as he had other things on his mind.
"Well, as long as you think it's OK.", 'Sigi' said.
"Yes, it looks very tasteful and fresh,.", Jim said.
"And did you find a 'date' for the graduation prom.", Jim then asked.
"Yes - a girl called Samantha - she's the schools' top cheerleader.", 'Sigi' replied.
"And that's good ?", Jim asked, not knowing much about high school sports and customs.
"The best...", 'Sigi replied enthusiastically.
"Well, I look forward to meeting her, when I come to your graduation.", Jim said politely, feigning interest.
"So where are Ethan and Teddy ?", 'Sigi' then asked.
"Oh, they're at the 'Park Theatre' rehearsing for the concert, you know, the one we're meant to go to at the end of the week.", Jim said.
"And are we still going ?", 'Sigi' asked.
"Yes, of course...as long as Ethan and Teddy get it all sorted out.", Jim replied.
So Jim left 'Sigi' to sort things out, and went on the the 'Villa Athena' to visit Novius.
Villa Athena - Drawing Room
Villa Athena - Antelope Valley - USA
On arriving, Novius took Jim, whom he always called Marcus, (his original Latin name), into the 'drawing room', (which Novius always referred to as the 'tablinum' - the Latin name for the main reception room).
"So how are things, Marcus ?", Novius asked.
"Well, a bit strange...", Jim began.
"And in what way, Marcus ?", Novius asked.
"Well, Glen will be starting high school very soon, and 'Sigi' is graduating and leaving, and Ethan - well I hardly ever see him now...", Jim related, sounding a little upset.
"Yes, but that's the way of the world, Marcus - but I think what's really troubling you is young Aurarius (Ethan).
"Yes - as usual you are right.
Lately he has been working on this show he's putting on at the Park theater.
At first he didn't' even tell be about it - but then Franklin showed me some odd expenditure at the theater, and I found out, and eventually Ethan admitted to me what he was doing.
But after that he didn't even invite me to go with him.
In the end I went down to the theater, and sat at the back and listened to the music he had orchestrated.
Not really to my taste, but very fine for the kind of music that they have in this time and place.", Jim explained.
"Well, Marcus - I would say Aurarius (Ethan) is just growing up.", Novius suggested.
"Yes, but what about what Faunus said - about us all staying young and not getting old ?", Jim asked.
Apollo
"That's true - but perhaps you misunderstood Faunus' meaning.
Physically Aurarius (Ethan) is not ageing, but as he experiences the world that will effect his mental outlook - and apparently he is maturing mentally, but not physically.", Novis said.
"Well perhaps your right... but I don't really know how to deal with it." Jim admitted.
"Now remember, Marcus, when you first met Aurarius (Ethan), he was your slave.
Since then a lot has happened - and for some time you were parted, and he made his own way in this 'new world', until the 'Boss' found him, and then, under the influence of Faunus, brought you together again.
But you must keep in mind the prophecy - that actually mentioned Aurarius, and made the prediction that you and he would always be together - and the prophecies of the great Apollo, as given by the Sybil always speak the truth.", Novius declared.
"Yes I know Novius - and a realise that this is just a phase, and Ethan needs to do what he is doing.", Jim said.
"That's good, Marcus my boy - so don't fret and let this little matter upset you - and if I know Aurarius he will emerge from this task far stronger - and an even greater help to you.", Novius said.
"Yes, I'm sure that you are right, Novius......
And what about Glen ?
Is he looking forward to starting high school ?", Jim asked.
"Well, to be quite honest I think he's a little nervous, but he does have 'Sigi', and a think 'Sigi's a nice boy, and will be willing to give Glen some useful advice.
It's one thing that I can't do - my school days were a very long time ago, and school in this world is very different to the kind of school that you and I knew.", Novius said.
"Yes, I'm sure - and I will probably find out soon, as tomorrow I am expected at 'Green Valley High School' for the graduation ceremony.
And so Jim left Novius to his books and computer, and Chuck drove him back to the 'Penthouse'.

Back in Las Vegas, after Jim had earlier quietly disappeared, Ethan continued with the rehearsal - this time giving Aaron an opportunity to perform with the orchestra.
All seemed to be going very well, and the only question that was troubling Ethan was the finalisation of the running order of the various pieces.
Fortunately that did not require the presence of the orchestra as they would be quite prepared to accept any running order that they were given.
It would, however, require some discussion with Aaron, so Ethan decided to invite Aaron back to the Penthouse.
When Aaron arrived at the Penthouse he seemed very impressed - particularly by the view from the large windows, although he was obviously confused by Ethan's greeting of 'Hi honey I'm home'.
Aaron was a very 'old fashioned', small town 'Southern Boy', and he was exceptionally polite to Clare, always adding ma'am to anything he said to her - and Clare, of course was enthralled, not only by his beautiful manners, but also by his good looks.
Clare was soon providing Aaron with cheeseburgers and coffee, while Ethan got down to business.
Ethan was very concerned that the various pieces should be arranged to that 'sung' pieces should, as far as possible, be interspersed with orchestral interludes in order not to put any strain on Aaron's voice.
As the evening went on Jim arrive at the Penthouse.
Jim had spent the drive from the Villa Athena mulling over Novius' comments and advice, and he realised that, for the first time ever, he had been jealous of Ethan's involvement - not with another person - but with his new found 'work'.
Jim felt, on reflection, that he had learned a good lesson, and that he should be pleased that Ethan was accomplishing something of value, both to himself, and to others.
So...Jim was pleased to see Aaron at the Penthouse and, after a friendly chat with Aaron, he left Ethan and Aaron to continue with their work - while he chatted with Clare.

The next day - the day of 'Sigi's graduation - was fine and sunny, as was usual in 'Vegas.
Teddy was usually rather 'manic' first thing in the morning, having been awake all night refreshing his database, but on this occasion he was cheerfully wandering around, quietly humming some of the concert music to himself.
"Time to get up boys.", Teddy proclaimed loudly, as he stood by the bed in the master bedroom waiting for Jim and Ethan to get up.
"Yes, Teddy...thanks.", Ethan said sleepily, grateful that Teddy had decided not to jump up and down on him - which was Teddy's usual method of waking Ethan.
"Right... we need to have breakfast and get ready quickly, as we need to get to 'Sigi's' as soon as possible, as today is the day of the graduation.", Jim said as he went to shower.
Clare, of course, was already preparing breakfast.
After breakfast Clare ensured that 'her boys' were 'correctly' dressed for the occasion.
Long Wheelbase Cadillac
"Now it's important for you to look your best as 'Sigi's friends will be at the graduation - so you need to make a good impression...", Clare explained, as if Jim and Ethan didn't realize the importance of the occasion for 'Sigi'.
Jim then instructed Chuck to bring the long wheelbase Cadillac to the front entrance - a Jim knew that 'Sigi' was expecting 'uncle Jim' to make a spectacular impression.
Spring Palms - Henderson - Nevada - USA
The drive to Henderson (Summerlin to Henderson) was only about twenty-five minutes, and the huge Cadillac was soon turning into Spring Palms, where 'Sigi's' neat little house was situated.
Obviously pleased to see 'uncle Jim', 'Sigi' also appeared a little on edge - presumably in anticipation of his 'valedictory address' he would be giving later in the day.
"I see you've had the gardeners, builders and painters in since we were last here...", Ethan commented.
"Well, it was uncle Jim's idea - he thought the house had been a bit neglected while it was on the market.", 'Sigi' replied'
'Sigi' then led them into the 'living room' - for which the furniture had been delivered late the previous day.
"Well, this is a surprise... and very nice...", Jim said, as he surveyed the fine sofa, side tables, table lights, and luxurious rug that covered the dark grey marble floor.
There was also a table and chairs in the adjoining room which 'Sigi' had presumably allocated as a 'breakfast room'.
Living Room - Spring Palms - Henderson - Nevada
"Very nice and very white...", Ethan said.
"Yes, but you do like it, Ethan ?", 'Sigi' said nervously.
"Oh yes.
It's very elegant.", Ethan said, wanting to reassure 'Sigi'.
"It's just that all this choosing furniture and colors and things is all new to me.
The other place was all chosen by by Franklin - and I never thought twice about it.", Sigi explained.
"Just as well... I don't think Franklin has much taste, and he was probably just trying to save money - although why I can't imagine.", Ethan said as he plopped Teddy down among the cushions that were set out on the very long, 'L' shaped sofa.
"Very nice, 'Sigi', but I think the cushions are a little 'overstuffed', but maybe that's because they're new - and perhaps they'll soften up with time.", Teddy said, making himself comfortable.
"Well, if they don't, I'll get some softer ones, 'specially for you, Teddy.", 'Sigi' said.
"So, you have your speech ready ?", Jim asked.
"Yes... Novius helped me with it...
It was difficult for me because I had very little experience of school, although spending time with other young people at Green Valley High I think was good for me.
Dr. Lockwood
You see I think that something strange happened to me when I had that accident with a cyclist, and hit my head, because after that I had a lot of trouble remembering things, and I don't really remember much about being at school when I was younger, or having friends of my own age.
Even my memories of my parents are very vague.", 'Sigi' said, sounding troubled.
"Yes, I know, but Dr. Lockwood thought that, in the end, it was best to leave matters as they were, because any attempt to retrieve memories could have possibly just made things worse.", Jim explained - not entirely truthfully.
"But you're memory's good enough to remember your speech, yes ?", Ethan asked, feeling guilty, as he had originally been partly responsible for 'Sigi's' memory loss.
"Oh yes, and anyway, I've got it written down as well, just in case I forget a bit.", 'Sigi' said with a grin, as he checked the time on his 'cell-phone'.
"But if you'll excuse me now - I must get changed.", 'Sigi' then said.
"Changed ? - but you look fine as you are...", Ethan said, not understanding.
"Yes, but for graduation I must wear an academic gown.", 'Sigi' said.
Ethan looked at Jim with a puzzled expression.
"It's like those robes that the village men and boys wore in Egypt...", Jim explained.
While 'Zigi' was away changing, Teddy gave one of his inevitable little speeches.
"The academic cap and gown which is worn in universities, but in America, also by High School Students when they receive their High School Diploma.
Academic dress consists of a gown - also known as a robe  with a separate hood, and usually a cap - usually a square academic cap, known as a mortarboard.
The origin of academic dress is to be found in the everyday wear of various medieval and renaissance ecclesiastical dignitaries.", Teddy explained.
"Ecclesiastical what thingys ?", Ethan asked, not having understood very much of what Teddy had just said.
"Christian priests and scholars from long ago...", Tedy replied haughtily.
"OK...", Ethan said, pretending to understand.
A few minutes later 'Sigi' returned.
"Oh !", Ethan exclaimed.
"Yes...very academic.", Jim said, thinking that it was probably the right thing to say.
"And very, very green !", Ethan added.
"Right !
But remember, this is not my idea.", 'Sigi said, beginning to wish that he'd never agreed to take part in the graduation ceremony - after all, he could have just asked the school to post the high school diploma to him.
"Well, let's go...", Jim said.
It was just a ten minute drive to 'Green Valley High School', and although they were in very good time for the graduation ceremony, the school car park was already almost full.
Just as 'Sigi had expected, and hoped, the arrival of Jim's huge long wheelbase Cadillac immediately attracted a lot of admiring attention.
Then, just before they left the limo, Jim had a word with Teddy.
Green Valley High School Badge
Green Valley High School - Main Entrance
"Now Teddy, I hope you realise that in this particular case it would not be a good idea for you to come with us, as I think a teddy-bear in the audience - even a cute, clever one like you, - might be a disruptive element, and in America they do take High School Graduations very seriously.", Jim said, desperately hoping that Teddy would not throw a tantrum.
"Yes Jim, I quite understand - I will just sit here and quietly go through the running order of the various numbers for the concert once again.", Teddy said quietly.
And that was good, particularly as the Cadillac had very dark windows, so no one would even notice Teddy.
"I'm worried about Teddy.", Ethan said, as they left the limo.
"Why didn't he make a real big fuss when you told him that he couldn't come with us and watch 'Sigi' get his diploma ?", Ethan asked.
"Well perhaps he's growing up - a bit like you, Ethan.", Jim said.
"And what's that supposed to mean ?", Ethan asked quite aggressively.
"And any way, I don't think that 'animatronic-thingy' teddys do 'grow up, as you put it.", Ethan added.
"Now who's making a fuss ?", Jim said to Ethan.
"Well let's hope that bear doesn't use any of his 'special powers' and make Chuck drive the limo into the audience, or something stupid like that.", Teddy said as he went into a sulk.
Jim chose to ignore that remark.
As they made their way to seats in the audience, the principal approached them and greeted Jim and 'Sigi', and then Jim introduced Ethan as another of 'Sigi's 'uncles'.
'Sigi' also took the opportunity, just before the graduation ceremony began, to introduce Jim to Samantha, or 'Sam' as 'Sigi' called her.
Sam was shapely, blond and blue-eyed, and extremely attractive - rather like a younger version of Clare - and Jim pondered that maybe Clare, when she was a teenager, might have been almost the 'double' of 'Sam'.
It was then that the ceremony began, much to the bemusement of Jim, Ethan and 'Sigi'.
Lots of boring speeches, and then the interminable giving out of diplomas took place, and then it was finally 'Sigi's' turn to speak.
"Esteemed Principal, members of the School Board, benefactors, teachers, parents, friends, and fellow graduates, it is an honor to speak to all of you today. First of all, I would like to say that I am very honored to have been given the opportunity to present this speech - but I am in some senses a 'new boy', and so I will not presume to make a long speech with all kinds of comments about individuals or events in the recent past. I think that it will probably be enough for me to say, on your behalf, a sincere thank you to everyone present here. Thank you to all those who are part of the school. Thank you to our supportive principal, and thank you to our teachers, parents, families, benefactors and friends. We, the students, have all had some of the best teachers, who have truly cared about us, and taught us with complete dedication in the hope of helping to mould us to become valuable contributors to society. Today, I know that I am standing on the very brink of my future - as each of you are - so this is, in a way, 'the first day of the rest of my life'. Some of us today, including our parents, guardians and friends are wondering just how our lives are going to turn out. It is good to wonder but, I also think it is important to realize that our future is not just something that happens to us. It is up to us to create that future. So, fellow graduates, I urge you today to embrace the opportunities that lie before you. Take what you have learned through the years, and put that knowledge and understanding to good use. So, now we are actually 'high school graduates', and soon we will be signing each others’ yearbooks, and saying goodbye. There will be hugs and tears, but hopefully we will do our best to stay in touch. Congratulations therefore to all of us, and good luck to all, and may everyone, without exception, find happiness and true fulfilment in whatever the future may hold. - and to conclude I would like to leave you with just two maxims from the temple of Apollo at Delphi, in Greece - 'Μανθάνων μὴ κάμνε' - 'Never tire of learning' - and - 'Φιλόσοφος γίνου' - 'Be a seeker of wisdom'.
And thank you for listening so attentively.....
There was then a moments silence.
The speech that 'Sigi' had given was short for a valedictory address, but remarkably rich in meaning - and then there was the surprise at the end, with 'Sigi' giving classical maxims in perfect Greek - something that had never before been heard at Green Valley High...
Jim was smiling - he of course understood the Greek - and understood that the speech obviously had been inspired by Novius - but it was given - apart from the classical maxims - in the easily understood, everyday terms of an American high school - and that was undoubtedly the work of 'Sigi'.
After the stunned silence the applause was deafening, with all the students throwing their mortarboard into the air, slapping one another on the shoulders and embracing - as was the custom at the conclusion of a graduation ceremony.
'Sigi' was then congratulated by the Principal, the Board of Governors and the Staff, and then made his way to where Jim was standing and applauding.
"Do you approve, 'Marcus' ?", 'Sigi' asked.
"Quite something 'Siegfried' ! - So what about a photo ?", Jim said, as Ethan readied his Hasselblad H6D-400c MS.
Siegfried Brandt at his Graduation

"So what now ?", Ethan asked.
"Well first we must get back to Teddy, and see if he's all right...", Jim said.
So they returned to the limo, and found Teddy sitting quite contentedly in air conditioned comfort.
"How did it go ?", Teddy asked.
"Great !", Ethan replied, putting Teddy on his lap.
"So I think now we should have a celebratory dinner...", Jim said.
"So where do you suggest, 'uncle Jim' ?", 'Sigi' asked.
"Well a place that we own, I think.
At least that way we'll be sure of good service - but we need to go back to your place first, and then to the penthouse to change into something more formal.", Jim said.
So Jim gave suitable instructions to Chuck, and they first went to Spring Palms, so that 'Sigi' could change out of his very green 'academic robes'.
While 'Sigi' was changing, Jim, Ethan and Teddy checked over the Graduation Diploma that 'Sigi' had received.
Of course, because of 'Sigi's' unusual circumstances, and Jim's lavish generosity towards the Nevada schools system, a 'special diploma' had been awarded to 'Sigi', not that he actually needed a diploma or certificate for future employment, as his employment situation was completely secure.

Once 'Sigi had changed, they then drove to the Penthouse for Jim and Ethan to change into formal wear.
Paradise Park Hotel - Las Vegas - Nevada
It was then back to the center of 'Vegas, and to the 'Paradise Park', for an early evening meal.
"Well, the old place is looking very grand now that all the floodlighting has been fixed up...
'seems like this new guy, Evans, is getting things organised.", Ethan said, as they stepped out of their limo and made their way into the suitably classical and grand entrance.
And 'speak of the devil' - Evans - the new hotel manager, seemed to pop up out of nowhere in order the greet the owner - that person being Jim - and escort him, and his guests to the premier restaurant in the hotel.
"Now I haven't been in this restaurant before, but it does seem very impressive...", Ethan commented as they were escorted to their table by Evans, the maitre d', and a minor cohort of waiters, who were apparently there to help with chairs, and generally fuss over Jim's small party, which strangely included a very fluffy and rather haughty teddy bear.
Paradise Park Premier Restaurant - Las Vegas - Nevada
There was a minor delay as a couple of tables were 'shunted' together, and then there seemed to be some general confusion and embarrassment as Teddy was settled in a chair by some waiters, and it was obvious that he couldn't see over the top of the table.
"Just sit him on the table - he likes to sit on the table...", Ethan said, sounding somewhat exasperated.
So, with Teddy comfortable, the maitre d' handed round menus.
"Oh, and Teddy doesn't eat..", Ethan added, returning the menu, "and you can take away the place setting."
'Sigi' of course, found all this very amusing.
While the waiters continued to fuss, Jim began speaking to 'Sigi'.
"Now I must apologise for not inviting 'Sam', (that's Samantha - the cute cheerleader), but this a really a 'private' celebration dinner.", Jim said quietly.
"You see, now that your time at high school is over, we really need to talk."
'Sigi' looked puzzled.
"About what, uncle Jim ?", 'Sigi asked.
"Why, your future of course.", Jim replied.
'Sigi' looked slightly alarmed.
"Now Teddy has been doing some research about high school graduation, and it appears that many high school students take a break after graduating from high school - sometimes even up to a year - often travelling abroad.", Jim said.
A gap year, also known as a 'sabbatical year', is typically a year-long break after graduation, during which students engage in various educational and developmental activities, such as travel or some type of regular work. Students who take gap years typically achieve a growth in maturity, and are better prepared to benefit from higher education or are better able decide the form of education or work that they wish to pursue subsequently.
"Now I intend to have a villa built here in Henderson, as I will be giving the 'Villa Athena' to Novius.
Winter Palace - Luxor - Egypt
Once that has been sorted out, I will be taking some of the others with me back to Egypt in order to supervise the furnishing and decoration of the 'Winter Palace' in Luxor, and I think that a prolonged stay in Egypt might make a  good 'sabbatical' for you before you decide if you want to go Yale, or work for us straight away.", Jim explained.
Jim then paused, waiting to see what 'Sigi's' response would be.
"Well I haven't really thought much about the future...", 'Sigi' began.
Ethan's Customised Colt Defender Series 90
Now 'Sigi' was not really a 'fee agent' (particularly since that fateful night when Ethan hit him over the head with his 'Colt Defender', and 'Sigi's' life changed dramatically - not that 'Sigi' had any memory of that time).
'Sigi', of course, was almost completely reliant on Jim for his lavish lifestyle - a beautifully furnished house in an upmarket suburb of Las Vegas, a brand new sports car, all his expenses paid, plus an extravagantly  generous regular allowance.
And now he was being offered the opportunity to spend maybe a year or more living in a riverside 'palace' in Egypt.
It was an 'offer that he couldn't refuse' - just the sort of 'offer' that the 'Boss' would have made, except that now Jim was the 'Boss'.
Yale University
"Yale would be something I would need to think about.
Novius has taught me a lot, and high school was quite interesting, but I think I would probably feel 'out of my depth' at a university.", 'Sigi' explained.
Yale University is a private 'Ivy League' university in New Haven, Connecticut. Founded in 1701, it is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States, and one of the nine Colonial Colleges chartered before the American Revolution. Collegiate School was renamed 'Yale' in 1718. The 'Boss' - Alexander Johnson - attended Yale University when he first arrived in the US. The Latin motto translates as 'Light and Truth'.
"Well, if you come with us to Egypt, you will have plenty of time to think things over...and we can talk further.", Jim said.
And so they proceeded with their meal.
The following day, of course, was the 'Inaugural Event' at the 'California Combat Club', but as 'Sigi' would be taking his date to the 'Graduation Prom' at 'Green Valley High School', and anyway 'Sigi' had little interest in the kind of wrestling that was offered at the 'Combat Club', that was an event that he would miss.
"You will, I hope, be attending the concert at the 'Park Theater' that Ethan has arranged at the end of the week, and you are welcome to bring Samantha with you.", Jim said.
"Well of course I would like to come...
I will be very interested to see what Ethan and Teddy are presenting, but I don't think I will bring 'Sam'.", 'Sigi' replied.
"And why not bring 'Sam' ? - she would be company for Clare.", Jim then said, sounding surprised.
"Now I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but I think she would find our 'gang' possibly a little difficult to cope with.
She even thought that it was very strange that you, Jim, were my 'uncle', mainly because you only look a few years older that me...
And then there would be the matter of Novius - who even I have trouble coming to terms with - not because there's anything wrong with him - in fact he's wonderful - but it's his past, which is so strange.
Anyway, I have no intention of having a long term relationship with 'Sam' - which she accepts.
"So, do you feel that your association with us his a hindrance to you, 'Sigi' ?". Jim asked, wanting to get matters out into the open.
"It is, in a way, but so far I feel that the advantages to me far outweigh the disadvantages.
"I mean it's difficult for me to have any close friends outside our group, and it is odd associating with people who have strange pasts, and also some very strange attitudes and beliefs, compared to the majority of people in this society, but by now I feel that I can accept such things.", 'Sigi' explained.
"And you don't mind having a teddy bear as a friend...?", Teddy added.
"Well that, actually, is one of the best things for me...", 'Sigi' said with a smile.

Meanwhile, at the 'California Combat Club' preparations had been being made for the 'inaugural show' of the new series of 'combat presentations'.
Apart from the rehearsals of the fight scripts, the interior of the the 'Combat club underwent a considerable refurbishment, and new ring lighting was installed in the main auditorium.

Back at the Park Hotel, however, the dinner eventually came to an end.
After complimenting and generously tipping the maitre d', Chuck then drove them back to 'Spring Palms', in Henderson, in order to drop off Sigi, who thanked Jim, Ethan and Teddy for coming to the graduation ceremony, (even if Teddy, at Jim's  insistence, stayed in the limo), and also thanked them all for a wonderful meal.

Chuck then drove Jim, Ethan and Teddy back to the Penthouse in Summerlin.
"So how do you feel about 'Sigi' graduating,  Jim.", Ethan asked.
"It's a good thing, but we need to sort out what he'll be doing next.", Jim replied.
On reaching the Penthouse, Jim and Ethan gave a brief account of 'Sigi's graduation to Clare, and then relaxed over cups of coffee.
Teddy, of course, didn't have any coffee, but he sat on the floor, (an Egyptian habit that Teddy had picked up in Cairo), listening as Jim and Ethan talked before they 'turned-in'.
"So how do you feel about 'Sigi' graduating,  Jim.", Ethan asked.
Penthouse Living Room
"It's a good thing, but we need to sort out what he'll be doing next.", Jim replied.
"So where do we go from here ?", Ethan asked.
"Good point, Ethan..."
Jim paused for a moment and looked out of the huge picture window of the living room at the 'Vegas skyline.
"We need to have a talk Ethan.", Jim said, sounding depressingly serious as far as Ethan was concerned..
"Well, before you start, I'm sorry if I've done anything wrong."
Jim shook his head.
"Of course you haven't done anything wrong, Ethan.
It's me....
I got jealous when you started secretly working on Aaron's concert, and then when you were spending so much time on the rehearsals.", Jim said nervously.
"Well that's no matter - the concert should go well anyway - so don't worry.
"But let me finish, Ethan.
I know that I am always expecting you to be with me, and help with whatever I'm doing...
and you don't really have a life of your own."
Ethan shook his head, but Jim continued.
"And like 'Sigi's' now got his own house, and own car, and can go his own way if he wants - but you're stuck with me - all the time." Jim continued.
"No, stop this, Jim.
Penthouse Building - Summerlin - La Vegas
I don't want to be with anybody else, and if I really wanted my own auto, I would buy it - you seem to forget that the 'Boss' didn't just leave me the Penthouse Building, but also an awful lot of money, and shares in the hotels, and the 'Combat 'Club, and other bits and pieces - and for some crazy reason you also pay me money every month, although I don't know for what reason.
And then there's Teddy...we three go together, and the kitties...
and speaking of them we need to get them back to the Winter Palace, as Teddy says they're not really very happy here.", Ethan said.
And so Jim's 'serious talk' collapsed in Ethan's expected concerns about his teddy bear and his kittens.
"So Ethan, would you and Jamie like some more coffee ?", Clare asked, as she came into the living room - already carrying the steaming cups.
"What did you call me, Clare ?", Jim asked.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Sir... I wasn't thinking...", Clare replied, obviously flustered.
"Jamie ? - I haven't heard that name before...", Jim said.
"It's a diminutive form of James, and also Jim.", Teddy said knowledgeably.
"Thank you Teddy...", Ethan said sarcastically.
Clare gave Jim his coffee, and tried to explain her mistake.
"You see James, I sometimes forget - I mean about your strange origins - which probably explains why you've never heard the name 'Jamie' before - but if you don't like me using it..."
"No, Clare, I like it, but only between ourselves...", Jim said.
"Of course Jim, if that's what you want.", Clare replied, regretting that she'd ever used the name, and wondering what she should now call Jim.
"But there's something that I need to ask you.", Jim said, presumably changing the subject.
"Well Ethan mentioned about the 'Winter Palace'.
Now so far I have not arranged for there to be any domestic staff there.
I will, of course, take some staff from our hotels there to look after us, but I need someone whom I can trust completely to look after myself and Ethan personally, so I was wondering if you would like to come with us on our next visit to Egypt - which should be quite soon ?", Jim asked diffidently.
"Of course Jim.
Anyway I have never travelled outside the States, and I've always wanted to go to a romantic place like Egypt.", Clare replied enthusiastically.
"Well it might be 'romantic', Clare, but it's also very smelly - the camels and donkeys and things... so be warned, Clare...", Ethan said.
But then Clar looked concerned.
"But Jim... the expense, I couldn't possibly afford... even the air-fare...", Clare said.
"Clare...
Stop being stupid.
You'll be going with us.
It'll cost you nothing - in fact I'll be paying for you to come with us.", Jim said, grinning.
"Well that's wonderful, Jim...
If you're really sure.", Clare said.
"Yes... But now it's getting late, and I think it's time for bed.", Jim said, helping Clare to take the cups back to the kitchen.

After 'Sigi's' graduation, the next 'gala' was the 'Inaugural Show' at the California Combat Club'. All the boys would be attending, but not Clare, as Jim thought such a display to be inappropriate for a 'nice young lady'. 'Sigi' also would not be attending as he would be taking Samantha to the 'Graduation Prom'. The final 'Grand Gala', however, was to be the Concert at the 'Park Theater' - intended to launch the 'Park' as the 'premier musical venue' in 'Vegas.
