For some reason the 'Boss' is determined to visit Roswell, although the sudden appearance of the 'men in black' at Alamogordo has made this somewhat risky, if Faunus' theory about these 'strangers' is correct. Also Roswell is not really blessed with fine restaurants and hotels - so the stay may be a little uncomfortable...but the trip goes on.....

If you have skipped other chapters in order to read this chapter in the hope of discovering the real story of the Roswell incident then you could possibly be disappointed - or not - it depends on what you're looking for. But remember, his account takes place in an 'alternative America' in one of Hugh Everett's many alternative worlds (the 'multiverse'), which may be a different 'world' to the one that you may inhabit - so be warned.
The Lounge in the 'Lodge' at Cloudcroft,
The following day found the 'Boss', Jim and Glen sitting listlessly in the lounge in the 'Lodge' at Cloudcroft, (with the life size stuffed bear watching them for a corner), while Chuck and Max sorted out the luggage for the next part of their trip - to Roswell.
"So why do you think Faunus was so keen to go to the 'Villa Jaguar' to see Novius and Josh ?", Jim asked.
"Oh......no reason in particular.", the 'Boss' replied, seemingly trying to ignore the question.
Villa Jaguar - Los Angeles
"You don't think he's worried that something might have happened to them ?", Jim persisted.
"Of course not....", the 'Boss' replied, smiling at Jim.
Glaux
"It's just that he hasn't seen them for some time, and he probably also wants to check on Glaux."
Jim nodded.
"There's nothing to worry about, Jim.
If there had been any problems then one of the staff at the villa would have 'phoned me, and anyway Glaux would have alerted Faunus.
Zac
And Zac is obviously fine, or Kurt would have contacted me, and Brody must be OK after that fight, otherwise Dr. Lockwood would have 'phoned me....so stop worrying.", the 'Boss' explained, a little exasperated at Jim's concern.
"I think it's seeing those 'men in black'....they unnerved me.
It's like you and those Nazis.
They're sinister, and just turn up without warning.", Jim said.
Novius at the Villa Jaguar
"Yes, of course....I understand Jim", the 'Boss' replied.
"So Jim....", Glen interrupted, "who is this old gentleman Novius ?".
Jim was surprised by the question, not realizing that Novius' presence had never been properly explained to Glen, and that Faunus had probably forgotten to include Novius in Glen's memories.
"Well...Novius is a very, very old friend of your uncle Alex (the 'Boss').
They grew up together.", Jim began, unsure as to what he should really say.
Novius at the Arizona Inn
"He's a very wise and clever man, who spends much of his time studying, which is what he is now doing at the Villa Jaguar - and Josh, with Glaux, is looking after him.
You see, Novius is brilliant at all things intellectual, but is not very good at the practical matters of everyday life.....but as you grow older he will have much to teach you.", the 'Boss' interjected.
Glen looked suitably impressed.
"And was he with you when you were in Mexico...doing your archeology, Sir ?", Glen asked the 'Boss'.
"Unfortunately - no.
At that time we lost contact...but then, as you know, Faunus brought us back together again, when we were at the Arizona Inn, Tuscon, at the same time that you came to stay with me.", the 'Boss' said.
"And Sir...", Jim began, wishing to change the subject, "Can you tell me why you are so keen to go to Roswell ?"
The 'Boss' sat back in his rather ancient looking, dark leather armchair.
"It's a subject that has long fascinated me.
The crash at Roswell occurred a few years after I returned from Mexico.
At the time I was so busy building up my businesses that I had no time to visit the area...and then, oddly, all mention of the subjected disappeared from the news.
Only later did people start to write about the matter, suggesting that a massive 'cover-up' had occurred.
'Don Picaro'...Faunus... had his own rather strange opinions about the matter, and I promised myself that some day I would visit the place, and try to make up my mind about what really happened...and as Roswell is on our way on this trip...well, this is as good an opportunity as ever.", the 'Boss' explained.
The Roswell Incident
New Mexico was then the hub of America's atomic, rocket, aircraft and radar research. Roswell was the home or the 509th US Air Force Bomb Group, the only combat trained atom bombers in the world. Major Jesse Marcel, the Air-force investigating officer, had no idea what the crashed craft was, but he knew it should not have been over such a sensitive defence area.
On July 8, his attempts to keep the affair under wraps were jolted when the base's public information officer, Walter Haut, issued a press release without the authorization his commanding officer, Colonel William Blancharrl.
It read - 'The many rumours of the flying disc became reality yesterday when the intelligence office of the 509th bomb Group gained possession of a disc through the cooperation of some local ranchers. The object landed at a ranch near Roswell some time last week. It was picked up at the rancher's home, inspected at Roswell Army Air Field, and loaned by Major Marcel to higher headquarters.'
Wire services quickly passed the news on to papers all over the world, and the Army came under pressure to release more details. But reporters now found the story had changed. A rash of denials poured out of Roswell and Washington. A senior Air Force officer assured the public via a Texas radio station that the wreckage was the remains of a 'Rawin' balloon. Newspapers were issued with a picture (now famous) of him and another officer examining a balloon. The official line soon cooled curiosity about what had happened at Roswell, but some UFO researchers were unsatisfied.
Eventually Charles Berlitz, author of books on the riddle of the 'Bermuda Triangle', took up the trail. And in 1980 he published a book, co-written by William Moore, which accused the government of covering up the real facts - that the Roswell craft was a spaceship containing six aliens. Berlitz included many examples of 'eye-witness' testimony of the surrounding events, but it was obvious that great pressure had been brought to bear by the authorities on all those involved in the recovery and all subsequent activities relating to the removal and storage of all the available material evidence, including the aliens.
It was during their conversation about the Roswell incident that Faunus arrived - in blue jeans and a western style shirt - apparently trying to blend in with the locals.
It was obvious that the 'Boss' was very pleased to see him, and he immediately began by asking how Novius and Ethan were getting on.
Cloudcroft - New Mexico
Pleased to learn that Novius was deep into his studies, and was getting on well with Josh, it was then time for them to decide how they would travel on to Roswell
Faunus would obviously drive in his rather odd pink 'Edsel', while Max and Glen would travel in the large, black Cadillac, and the 'Boss', going with Jim,  would let Jim his own auto.
And so the 'Boss' paid the bill.... the autos were all checked to ensure that all the luggage had been loaded, and with a sigh of relief they slowly drove away from the 'Lodge', and sleepy old 'Cloudcroft'.....and headed for Roswell.

The Road to Roswell
"Not very interesting scenery...", Max commented to Glen, as their huge Cadillac smoothly glided down the practically empty highway.
Glen nodded in agreement as they surveyed the endless miles of flat, sparely inhabited land.
Meanwhile, the 'Boss', who was traveling with Jim, was frantically searching the Internet for some reasonable accommodation.
"It looks, Jim...", the 'Boss' said despondently, "as if we are not going to find anything of the standard to which you have become accustomed."
"No problem... just try and find something comfortable.", Jim replied as he concentrated on his driving.
"I must say, when I first saw you nervously standing in front of my desk in the 'Club Jaguar', when you didn't even know who you were, I never thought that you would be demanding five star luxury and fine dining !", the 'Boss' said, laughing.
"That's your fault, Sir....if you don't mind me saying... ", Jim replied, with a smile.
"And that's just as well... remember, you're a very rich boy.", the 'Boss' replied, a little more seriously.
"Unfortunately, the only well situated hotel in Roswell is the 'Holiday Inn' - just three and a half stars !", the 'Boss' said.
"So where am I heading for ?", Jim asked.
"3620 North Main Street... slap in the middle of Roswell !", the 'Boss' replied, and Jim entered the information into the dashboard.
'Roswell - Dairy Capital of the Southwest'
On the way, as they approached Roswell, a very strange sign on the side of the highway appeared.
Jim slowed a little to read the legend: and it said...
'Welcome to Roswell - Dairy capital of the Southwest...' - and also: 'Roswell All America (?) City'...
"Very strange, Sir...
Did you see many dairy cattle roaming around as we drove here ?", Jim asked.
"To be honest, Jim... no !", the 'Boss' replied, smiling.
"Perhaps the aliens have abducted all of them ...", Jim said, grinning...
As it happens, Roswell is home to 'Leprino Food's, one of the world's largest mozzarella factories - and mozzarella is a dairy product......Mozzarella is a traditionally southern Italian cheese made from Italian buffalo's milk by the pasta filata method ?
Roswell is a city (?) and the seat of Chaves County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Surprisingly, it is a centre for irrigated farming, dairying, ranching, manufacturing, distribution, and petroleum production. It is also the home of New Mexico Military Institute, founded in 1891. A major aquifer was discovered in 1890, resulting in the area's first major growth and development spurt. The growth continued when a railroad was built through town in 1893. In the 1930s, Roswell was a site for much of Robert H. Goddard's early rocketry work.
Robert Hutchings Goddard (October 5, 1882 – August 10, 1945) was an American engineer, professor, physicist, and inventor who is credited with creating and building the world's first liquid-fuelled rocket. Goddard successfully launched his model on March 16, 1926, ushering in an era of space flight and innovation. He and his team launched 34 rockets between 1926 and 1941, achieving altitudes as high as 2.6 km (1.6 mi) and speeds as fast as 885 km/h (550 mph).
The 'Roswell Museum and Art Centre' maintains an exhibit which includes a recreation of Goddard's rocketry development workshop. Roswell was a location of military importance from 1941 and was the home or the 509th US Air Force Bomb Group, the only combat trained atom bombers in the world.
Arriving in Roswell - New mexico
The 'Boss' 'phoned the address and direction to Chuck - and of course, Faunus already knew exactly which hotel they would be staying at, and where it was situated.
When they finally reached Roswell, Jim was decidedly underwhelmed.
He had learned that Americans had a strange way of defining communities.
Cloudcroft was designated at a 'town', whereas, in reality it was barely a village.
Roswell was designated as a 'city', whereas really it was just a moderately sized town.
Like many American cities, Roswell was laid out on a grid plan, very similar to the various purpose-built cities that Roman legions established throughout their sprawling empire.
The 'Holiday Inn' - Main Entrance - Roswell - New Mexico
After driving through many almost identical streets, they eventually came to 'North Main Street'.
The 'Holiday Inn' looked quite imposing, but modern, and rather too functional for a 'holiday' destination - more like the 'head office' of some high-tech corporation.
It was, however, Jim thought, some considerable improvement on the 'Lodge' at Cloudcroft, and would probably not have any life-size, stuffed bears lurking in corners, or 'creepy' oil paintings.
And so they 'parked up', as Chuck and Faunus joined them.
The 'Holiday Inn' - Reception - Roswell - New Mexico

In conformity to Jim's initial impressions, the reception area of the Holiday Inn looked equally like the reception area of a high-tech corporation - or alternatively an upmarket hospital, and there was little evidence of the 'warmth' that one would expect to find in a luxury hotel.
On being escorted to their rooms, there was the same rather clinical atmosphere, with an odd gray and orange color scheme.
One feature that did seem very strange was the arrangement of three sets of pillows on the large double bed - which conjured up the perverse image of 'three in a bed'.
The 'Holiday Inn' - Bedroom - Roswell - New Mexico
Equally there was the very ominous feature of a little table on which was placed coffee-making equipment (but no cups), which made Jim wonder about the arrangements for 'room service'.
But it was cheap - not that Jim was paying.
After sorting out their luggage, taking a shower, and getting changed, the next step was to go for a meal.
The 'Boss' didn't think it was a very good idea to go searching for a suitable restaurant, as the choice in Roswell was relatively limited - and so they took their first meal in the hotel restaurant.
When they arrived in the restaurant it was suspiciously empty.
Again, like the bedroom, there was a lot of grey and orange.
It was certainly not as 'well appointed' as the restaurant Phoenix Biltmore, or at the 'Club Jaguar' for that matter, but is was modern (a bit too 'modern' possibly), and clean, and the food was reasonably good.
But before they actually got to the restaurant there were two surprises waiting for them in the reception area.
"Hi guys !", a familiar voice said.
Ethan
It was Ethan, carrying a very large case, and an almost equally large carrier bag.
"Ethan ! ....'my special little guy' !", the 'Boss' said, obviously very pleased, and being unusually demonstrative.
"So, Faunus contacted you ?", the 'Boss' continued.
"Of course !", Ethan said.
"When he thought you might be in some sort of trouble, he decided to send some 'muscle' to make sure that you were all OK.", Ethan explained.
Ethan - at the 'Villa Jaguar' Shooting Lodge
"Some muscle ?", Jim queried.
"Yes...didn't you know ?
I'm a superb marksman, and a 'tried and tested' security operative.", Ethan boasted.
"Really ?", Jim said, finding it very difficult to believe what Ethan was saying.
"Of course !
Maria Orsic - (Orsitsch)
I'm the guy who caught Brandt, and his 'chick' Maria.
She tried to 'come on' to me....but I resisted her advances... (which was not really surprising, as Ethan is 'gay'), and now she's in Mexico !", Ethan continued.
Jim shook his head in disbelief, while the 'Boss', along with Faunus, smiled knowingly, as Max and Glen moved off into the restaurant.
"I'm 'packing heat', and I have a number of 'pieces' in my luggage,", Ethan went on.
"OK...", Jim said, wondering how long Ethan was going to keep talking like some character out of the 'gangster movies' he loved watching.
"And what's in the carrier bag ?"
"A teddy bear.", Ethan said... quietly, and noticeably blushing.
"A what !", Jim said.
McDonald's - Roswell - New Mexico
"Not so loud... it's not mine... it's for Glen.", Ethan explained.
"Yes... and we're supposed to believe that as well !", Jim said, with a touch of sarcasm.
"Well, if you're going to be like that, I happen to know that there's a very good McDonald's here in Roswell - and it's in the shape of a 'flying saucer'... I checked it out on the Internet before I came... and I might just go there with Teddy, and have a 'Pepsi Max' and a couple of cheeseburgers.
Anyway, I don't much like the look of the restaurant here.", Ethan said petulantly.
Brody
"OK Ethan... I'm really sorry... but please ... come with us for a meal, and you can tell us all about Brody's fight.", hoping that Ethan would 'take the bait', as he always seemed to love talking about Brody.
The reason for Ethan's penchant for talking about Brody, of course, was that he had had an infatuation with Brody from the time they first met, although this had been tempered by two factors.
The first was Brody's obvious masochism.
Tripp
Ethan was not entirely happy with having to 'beat up' Brody', (not for real, however, as he couldn't have done that even if he had tried), before having sex.
The 'mock beating' and 'abuse', of course, was just a form of 'foreplay' on which Brody insisted.
The later problem was that Brody had become attracted to a newly acquired 'gopher' at the California Combat Club, in 'Vegas, called Tripp.
Tripp was a boy that Ethan had also fancied, but Tripp, who assisted Brody when he changed in the locker room and in the shower,  had become obsessed with Brody, and therefore Tripp was no longer available to Ethan - and that situation had also obviously cooled the 'affair' between Ethan and Brody even further
Another Time and Another Place
This, however, was all peripheral to Ethan's real obsession, which was Jim - an obsession which had originated in that other time and other place, which for Ethan - sadly - by then seemed so far away and long ago...
Jim and Ethan in the Pool on Jim's First Night in the Penthouse
But Tripp and Brody were back in 'Vegas - probably enjoying one another in the steaming showers of the California Combat Club, or Brody's apartment - and Max, who had a brief 'fling' with Jim during the 'road trip' was, unknown to Ethan, about to be sent back to the 'Club Jaguar' in 'Vegas - which possibly left the way clear for Ethan - if he could only 'get it together' with Jim, as people said in this 'alternative America'.
When Jim had first arrived, it had all seemed so easy to Ethan, as the 'Boss' had arranged for Jim to live in the Penthouse - where Ethan lived alone.
But then so much had happened, and there never seemed to be an opportunity for Ethan to truly declare himself once again to Jim.
And Jim - who had also had much with which to contend, was not sure if Ethan felt the same way towards him as he had before he had come to this strange 'alternative America'.
But now they were both staying at the same hotel in New Mexico, and Brody and Tripp were out of the picture - back in 'Vegas... so was the reason that the 'Boss' ordered Ethan to Roswell for reasons of security, or did he have an ulterior motive, possibly engineered by Faunus ?As they all made their way into the restaurant, the 'Boss' took  Max to one side.
The others ignored this, but Faunus knew that the 'Boss' was telling Max that after the meal he was to unobtrusively go to his room, pack, and go to the car-park where the Cadillac which had brought Ethan, would be waiting to take him back to 'Vegas, and the Club Jaguar.
The 'Boss' then discretely gave Max a bulky envelope, presumably stuffed with bills, as a very generous 'thank you' - and promised the boy that he would be wanted for other 'special occasions' in the future.
At the same time that the 'Boss' had been sorting matters out with Max, Ethan had registered at the reception.
A  bellhop had offered to take Ethan's luggage up to his room but Ethan, worried about Teddy, had refused to let the bellhop take his bulky shopping bag, leaving the bellhop with only the unnaturally heavy case - stuffed full with ammunition, silencers, a couple of rifles, and a few handguns - as well as some clothes.
Once in his room, Ethan had taken Teddy out of his shopping bag, and sat him on the bed.
"There you are, Teddy.
Now you just wait for me... and don't leave the room... OK?", Ethan said firmly.
"Can I take a shower ?", Teddy asked.
I'm very dusty after that long journey."
Ethan checked the en-suite bathroom.
"Yes...as long as it doesn't blow any of your fuses, or anything.", Ethan said, warily.
"Don't worry, I'm guaranteed fully waterproof.", Teddy replied.
"And is there a fur-drier ?
I'd like to be nice and fluffy when you come back." Teddy added.
Ethan sighed and looked in some of the drawers.
"Yes, Teddy.
I'll leave it out here for you - on the bedside table.
And it's called a 'hair-drier'... 'cause it's not really made for teddy bears.
"Thank you.", Teddy said - as he was a very polite teddy.
And with that Ethan left - eager to return to the restaurant and some food.
And so, with the return of the 'Boss', and a little later, Ethan, they all settled down to a meal, which was accompanied, thanks to Ethan, by a vivid, but suitably 'toned down' description, (on account of Glen), of Brody's first fight, along with a rather dramatized and exaggerated description of how Ethan  - helped by Zac - had 'captured' Dr. Brandt and Maria.
Holiday Inn - Roswell - New Mexico - Bar
At the end of the meal, Glen went to his room for an early night (at the insistence of the 'Boss'), while the 'Boss', Jim, Faunus and Ethan retired to the very sparse and spartan bar in order to discuss recent events.
Max also left, but without any farewells, as he followed the instructions that he had been given by the 'Boss', and was soon being driven back to Vegas in the exceptional comfort of a very roomy Cadillac - a much richer boy.
Back in the bar at the Holiday Inn - Roswell, Jim was still puzzled as to why the 'Boss' was so interested in Roswell - but was unable to get a 'straight answer'.
Ethan was equally puzzled as to why the 'Boss' was concerned about 'security'.
The 'Boss' tried to explain about the 'men in black', but Ethan was not really convinced - or more likely, really not understanding what the 'Boss' was saying.
Faunus was interested to know about the plans that the 'Boss' might have for the following day.
So, at about eight in the morning, they all gathered in the sparse 'breakfast room' of the Holiday Inn.
All that is except for one, for Max was still on his way back to 'Vegas.
No one, wisely, commented, except Glen, who wondered, out loud, where Max was.
"Oh, he was needed back at the 'Club Jaguar', in 'Vegas....but don't worry, you'll be seeing him again,...soon.", the 'Boss' said, casually.
The 'Boss' made it clear that he wanted to go out and about in Roswell to do some - as he called it - 'investigating'.
The others were not really sure what he meant, but were prepared to see how things might 'pan out'.
Glen and Ethan thought it all sounded rather exciting, but Jim and Faunus were rather dubious.
Regardless, they set out, heading for main street.
The 'Boss' had explained to Jim and Ethan that the 'gun laws' in New Mexico allowed them to carry side arms.
Ethan, of course , was very happy with that information.
Jim's Western Style Revolver
Jim, initially thought that the comments of the 'Boss' were not directed at him - until the 'Boss' reminded him of the six-shot revolver that  had been bought for him in Phoenix - insisting that Jim now wore the belt, holster and gun on their walk through Roswell.
Jim's only consolation was the fact that the 'Boss' didn't expect Jim to wear the heavily embroidered Western style shirt that had been bought on the same shopping expedition.
Their first 'port of call' was to be the 'Roswell UFO Museum' - dedicated to the 1947 UFO crash.

'International UFO Museum & Research Centre'
Walter Haut, who had been public information officer at Roswell Army Air Field  began promoting the idea of a home for information on the Roswell Incident and other UFO phenomena. He got together with Glenn Dennis, another 'Roswell Incident' participant, and the two sought a home for a UFO Museum. Founders of the 'International UFO Museum & Research Centre', which was incorporated as a non-profit educational organization and opened the centre to visitors never realizing just how hungry the world was for information on the subject of their Museum.
The Museum continues to provide information to the general public on all aspects of the UFO phenomena. People from around the world travel to Roswell to see what the Museum has to offer and to simply "be in Roswell where it happened."
Museum exhibits include information on the Roswell Incident, crop circles, UFO sightings, Area 51, ancient astronauts and abductions. The exhibits are designed not to convince anyone to believe one way or another about their subjects. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions. Many visitors come numerous times and some spend days, or even weeks, doing research in the library designed to help people prove the existence of aliens and a government cover-up. There’s something for every interested person at the museum – sceptic, curious, or true believer.
"So before I shoot anyone, Sir, where is this UFO 'museum thingy'... ?", Ethan asked.
The 'Boss' smiled, as they walked along.
"Well hopefully you won't be shooting anyone, Ethan - and if you do, aim for their legs, just to disable them.
I don't want you up for murder....", the 'Boss' said, as he ruffled Ethan's spiky hair while they walked.
"The Museum is on Main Street North - 114.... so... we're on the right street, and I think I see it, just a little way off.", the 'Boss' said.
So they walked...
"I've also been doing a bit of research on the Internet, and I've found a planetarium - just near here.", the 'Boss' added, trying to get Ethan to forget about shooting people.
"Great !", Glen piped up.
"A planetarium !", and he tugged at Ethan's arm.
"We went to one of those at the Alamogordo Space Museum, just a few days ago, and it was really cool !...
Can we go, uncle ?", Glen asked, excitedly.
Roswell - UFO Museum - New Mexico
"Yes...why not.", the 'Boss' replied casually, as the UFO museum came into sight.
"What's all this business about 'uncle' ?", Ethan quietly asked Jim.
"Well when Faunus magicked up Glen, he put into the boy's mind the idea that the 'Boss' was his uncle... 'uncle Alex'.", Jim explained in a whisper.
Ethan stood stock still for a moment, and then went to one side and pretended to look intently into a nearby shop-window as he desperately tried to stifle his laughter.
Snake-skin Cowboy Boots
"What's up, Ethan ?", the 'Boss' asked, noticing that Ethan had been left behind.
"You need a new pair of shoes ?".
It was a shoe shop.
"So... men's snake-skin cowboy boots, eh... Ethan ?", the 'Boss' commented.
"Well maybe, Sir.", Ethan replied, having eventually got control of himself.
So as Ethan was not making much sense, the 'Boss' decided to ignore Ethan, and get on with the job in hand.
"So... it's five dollars to get in.", the 'Boss' said, leaving Ethan standing red-faced looking in at the shop window.
"OK..." Jim said..."and I'll pay for Glen".

So they all entered the museum, and dutifully paid their five dollars.
"Well... it's certainly a bit weird." Ethan said, as they began looking round the exhibits.
Roswell - UFO Museum - New Mexico - Interior
"And what's that horse doing there ?", Glen asked.
The 'Boss' shrugged his shoulders.
Regardless, they made their way round the exhibits, finally stopping off to have their photo taken standing in front of a very unlikely looking life size model of the crashed disk, completely with some very embarrassed looking 'alien manikins'.
"So why have you really come here, Sir ?", Jim asked pointedly.
This is not actually your 'thing', is it ?"
The 'Boss' smiled.
"No...  of course.
But they do have a library here, and you're going to help me with some research." the 'Boss said.
"Now we'll all look around until Glen and Ethan get bored, and then I'll send the two of them off to the the 'Goddard Planetarium'.
Robert Goddard Planetarium - Roswell - New Mexico
Glen really wants to see another planetarium show, and Ethan's never seen one before - so they should both be more than content.
And Glen should be safe with Ethan - our little spiky haired 'security guy'.
Meanwhile you, me and Faunus can do some research - here, in the library.", the 'Boss' suggested.
"Sounds OK to me... what do you think Faunus ?", Jim said.
"Good idea, Sir.", Faunus replied deferentially.
"So that's what happened and, with a little explaining to Ethan about  the route - and the planetarium was very close to the museum -  the two boys set off for the 'Goddard Planetarium', while the 'Boss', Jim and Faunus made their way to the library.
Zeiss 'Skymaster ZKP' Projector
The Goddard Planetarium uses the Zeiss 'Skymaster ZKP' projector, which is designed for smaller domes, and use a 'dumbbell' design similar to the Mark II-VI projectors, where two small 'star-balls' - for the northern and southern hemispheres - are connected by a truss containing projectors for planets and other moving objects. The Zeiss system, first developed between 1923–1924, but then regularly updated and improved, is probably a superior system to that used at the 'New Mexico Space Museum Planetarium' (which Glen saw in his first visit to a planetarium), both  in terms of optics and also mechanics.
'International UFO Museum & Research Canter'
Once settled in the library, Jim and Faunus were sent to find certain specific books - on certain specific subjects.
Having deposited a pile of books on the table where the 'Boss' was sitting, Faunus started quickly rifling through the large number of selected books, and then presenting certain pages for the 'Boss' to peruse.
Finally the 'Boss' broke the silence.
"Probably the most important witness to these events is William 'Mac' Brazel," the 'Boss' said.
Faunus nodded.
William 'Mac' Brazel
"And who's William 'Mac' Brazel ?", Jim asked - obviously puzzled.
"Well here he is - not a very good photo, but then it's quite old.
He's the ranch hand who first reported the existence of debris on the land belonging to J. B. Foster  - near Corona.", Faunus explained.
"Looks like a real cowboy -but I thought this happened in Roswell.", Jim said.
Corona - New Mexico
"Well that's how its been presented over the years, but actually the 'crash' was much closer to the small cattle town of Corona.", Faunus replied.
"So he's the guy that the 'Boss' needs to talk to." Jim said.
"Yes, Jim... but there's a problem.
William 'Mac' Brazel is dead.", the 'Boss' said in response.
"True, but he has a son... William Brazel junior.", Faunus said.
"So why don't we go and talk to him ?", Jim asked.
"Not possible, Jim.
He doesn't live in these parts any more - but I have a 'phone number - and maybe I could arrange a call so the 'Boss' can speak to him - hopefully soon.", Faunus said.
Major Jesse Marcel - Roswell - 1947
"OK....now the other important witness is Major Jesse Marcel, who acted initially  as the investigating officer of the 'Roswell Incident'.", the 'Boss' said.
"Yes, but we have the same problem there.
Jesse Marcel Junior
Jesse Marcel is dead, but his son, Jesse Marcel Junior, like Brazel Junior, has moved away, but we can contact him.
Now how Faunus knew how to contact these two individuals neither the 'Boss' nor Jim could understand, but that was not the sort of thing that they felt able to ask Faunus about.
Faunus just knew these things - and he was always right.
So....while they waited for Glen and Ethan to return from the Planetarium, the 'Boss' rang Bill Brazel Junior.
The odd thing was Bill seemed to be expecting the call, and the 'Boss' didn't seem to need to explain himself.
According to Bill Brazel there were two distinct versions of his father's story -  William 'Mac' Brazel's story, and the story given out by the Army (at the time there was no separate USAF)
As a preamble it should be explained that on July 2, 1947, during the evening, a UFO crashed on the Foster Ranch near Corona, New Mexico.
The crash occurred during a severe thunderstorm.
The military base nearest the crash site was and is in Roswell, New Mexico; hence, Roswell is more closely associated with this event than Corona, even though Corona is closer to the crash site.
The following is what the 'Boss' told Faunus and Jim about his conversation with Bill Brazel Junior.

'On July 3, 1947, William 'Mac' Brazel and his 7-year-old neighbour Dee Proctor found the
remains of the crashed flying saucer.
Brazel Senior was foreman of the Foster Ranch.
The pieces they first found were spread out over a large area, perhaps more than half a mile long.
When Brazel drove Dee back home, he showed a piece of the wreckage to Dee's parents, Floyd and Loretta Proctor.
They all agreed the piece was unlike anything they had ever seen.
On July 6, 1947, Brazel showed pieces of the wreckage to Chaves County Sheriff George Wilcox. Wilcox called Roswell Army Air Field (AAF) at Roswell, and talked to Major Jesse Marcel, the intelligence officer.
Major Jesse Marcel
Marcel drove to the sheriff's office and inspected the wreckage, and then reported to his findings to his commanding officer, Colonel William Blanchard.
Blanchard ordered Marcel to get someone from the Counter Intelligence Corps, and to proceed to the ranch with Brazel, and to collect as much of the wreckage as they could load into their two vehicles.
Soon after this, military police arrived at the sheriff's office, collected the wreckage Brazel had left there, and delivered the wreckage to Blanchard's office.
The wreckage was then flown to Eighth Air Force headquarters in Fort Worth, and from there to Washington, (which was odd if, as was claimed later, it was just a weather balloon !).
Meanwhile, Marcel and Sheridan Cavitt of the Counter Intelligence Corps drove to the ranch with Mac Brazel.
They arrived late in the evening, and spent the night in sleeping bags in a small out-building on the ranch, (which was also odd, as they could have spent the night in Roswell, and driven out to the ranch in the morning - perhaps they wanted to keep and eye on Brazel), and in the morning they proceeded to the crash site.
On July 7, 1947, Marcel and Cavitt collected (more) wreckage from the crash site, and after filling Cavitt's vehicle with wreckage, Marcel told Cavitt to go on ahead, and that Marcel would collect more wreckage, and they would meet later back at Roswell AAF.
Marcel filled his vehicle with wreckage (which seems to be an awful lot of wreckage for a small weather balloon as some had already bee transported to Washington).
On the way back to the air field, Marcel stopped at home to show his wife and son (Jesse Marcel Junior) the strange material he had found (the question here is why should he show this material to his wife and son when the whole matter was 'top secret' ?).
On July 7, 1947, around 4:00 pm, Lydia Sleppy at Roswell radio station KSWS began transmitting a story on the teletype machine regarding a crashed flying saucer out on the Foster Ranch.
Part of the way through, the transmission was interrupted by the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation).
On July 8, 1947, in the morning, Marcel and Cavitt arrived back at Roswell AAF with two carloads of wreckage.
Marcel accompanied this wreckage, or most it, on a flight to Fort Worth AAF.
On July 8, 1947, around noon, Colonel Blanchard, at Roswell AAF, ordered Second Lieutenant Walter Haut to issue a press release telling the country that the Army had found the remains of a crashed a flying saucer.
Haut was the 'public information officer' for the 509th Bomb Group at Roswell AAF.
Haut delivered the press release to Frank Joyce at radio station KGFL.
Joyce waited long enough for Haut to return to the base, and then called Haut there to confirm the story.
Joyce then sent the story on the 'Western Union' wire to the 'United Press Bureau'.
General Roger Ramey
On July 8, 1947, in the afternoon, General Clemence McMullen in Washington spoke by telephone with Colonel (later Brigadier General) Thomas DuBose in Fort Worth, chief of staff to Eighth Air Force Commander General Roger Ramey.
McMullen ordered DuBose to tell Ramey to quash the flying saucer story by creating a 'cover story'.
On July 8, 1947, in the afternoon, General Roger Ramey held a press conference at Eighth Air Force headquarters in Fort Worth in which he announced that what had crashed at Corona was a weather balloon, not a flying saucer.
To make this story convincing, he showed the press the remains of a damaged weather balloon that he claimed was the actual wreckage from the crash site.
(Apparently, the obliging press did not ask why the Army hurriedly transported weather balloon wreckage to Fort Worth, Texas, site of the press conference, from the crash site in a remote area of New Mexico.)
Later, a large group of soldiers were sent to the 'debris field' on the Foster Ranch, including a lot of MPs whose job was to limit access to the field.
A wide search was launched well beyond the limits of the debris field.
Within a day or two, a few miles from the debris field, the main body of the flying saucer was found, and a mile or two from that several bodies of small humanoids were found.
The military took Mac Brazel into custody for overt a week, during which time he was seen on the streets of Roswell with a military escort.
His behaviour aroused the curiosity of friends when he passed them without any sign of recognition.
Following this period of detention, Brazel was required to repudiated his initial story.
William 'Mac' Brazel
Loretta Proctor, a neighbour, who was shown some of the wreckage by Brazel, suggested that Mac Brazel had been bribed, or maybe threatened with violence, to keep quiet.
William Brazel Junior explained that some of the material he saw that had been recovered from the wreckage  was like tinfoil, except that it wouldn't tear.... You could wrinkle it up and lay it back down ,and it immediately resumed its original shape... it was quite pliable, but you couldn't crease or bend it like ordinary metal.
It was almost like a plastic, but definitely metallic.
Dad (William 'Mac' Brazel) once said that the Army had once told him it was not anything made by us.
There was also some threadlike material.
It looked like silk, but was not silk, a very strong material without strands or fibres like silk would have, and it was more like a wire, all one piece or substance.
There were also some pieces like balsa wood in weight, but a darker in color, and much harder....
It was pliable but wouldn't break but seemed to weigh nothing, but you couldn't scratch it.
There was no writing or markings on the pieces I had, but Dad did say one time that there were what
he called 'figures' on some of the pieces he found, and  he often referred to the 'petroglyphs' the ancient Indians drew on the rocks around here as 'figures', too, so I think that's what he meant to compare them with.
Later the Army came and confiscated any items in the ranch that had been found around the debris field.
'The crash and remnants of the device that I happened to see have left an imprint on my memory that can never be forgotten.
The craft was not conventional in any sense of the word, in that the remains were most likely what was then known as a flying saucer that had apparently been stressed beyond its designed capabilities.
I'm basing this on the fact that many of the remnants, including I-beam pieces that were present, had strange hieroglyphic typewriting symbols across the inner surfaces, pink and purple.
The remainder of the debris was just nondescript metallic debris, or just shredded fragments, but
there was a fair amount of the intact I-beam members present.
I only saw a small portion of the debris that was actually present at the crash site.
When Dad came back to the house he had a bunch of wreckage with him at the time, and he brought the wreckage into the house.
He actually wakened my mother and myself out so we could view this, because it was so unusual. This was about two o'clock in the morning as I recall, and he spread it out so we could get some basic idea what it looked like, what it was....
We were all amazed by this debris that was there, primarily because we didn't know what it was, you know -  it was just the unknown....
This writing on a short piece of I-beam could be described as like hieroglyphics, Egyptian-type hieroglyphics, but not really.
The symbols that were on the I-beams were more of a geometric-type configuration in various designs.
It had a violet-purple type color and was actually an embossed part of the metal itself.
Years after this incident happened, we would talk privately among ourselves about what the possibilities of this, what this thing was, and I feel that we, well I know that we came to the conclusion it was not of earthly origin.
If I had not actually held pieces of it in my hand, I would not think that it would be possible, but because I happened to see this, that's the only reason I believe it....
My Dad said obviously the weather balloon story was a cover-up story -  it was not an air-force balloon.
He was a little disturbed about that, but he had his own security classification to protect.
He could not really go public by saying  'this is not the real thing', I mean this is not an air-force balloon - so he had to keep that to himself.

Project Mogul
Project Mogul (sometimes referred to as Operation Mogul) was a project of the US Army Air Forces (later known as the USAF) involving microphones flown on high-altitude balloons, whose primary purpose was long-distance detection of sound waves generated by Soviet atomic bomb tests.
Project Mogul Balloon
The project was carried out from 1947 until early 1949.
It was a classified portion of an unclassified project by New York University (NYU) atmospheric researchers.
The project was moderately successful, but was very expensive, and was superseded by a network of seismic detectors and air sampling for fallout, which were cheaper, more reliable, and easier to deploy and operate.
Project Mogul was conceived by Maurice Ewing who had earlier researched the deep sound channel in the oceans and theorized that a similar sound channel existed in the upper atmosphere: a certain height where the air pressure and temperature result in minimal speed of sound, so that sound waves would propagate and stay in that channel due to refraction.
The project involved balloons carrying disc microphones and small radio transmitters to relay the signals to the ground.
It was supervised by James Peoples, who was assisted by Albert P. Crary.
The early Mogul balloons consisted of large clusters of rubber meteorological balloons, however, these were quickly replaced by one large balloon.
These were more durable, leaked less helium, and also were better at maintaining a constant altitude than the early rubber balloons.
Faunus also put the 'Boss' onto Bill Rickett
Master Sergeant Lewis S. 'Bill' Rickett was a Counter Intelligence Corps (CIA) officer based in Roswell.

Master Sergeant
Lewis S. "Bill" Rickett
Because of Rickett, the 'Boss' had another first-hand witness to the strange wreckage, and also a suggestion of a second (or third?) UFO crash site other than the Corona site, closer to Roswell.
Rickett revealed that the Air Force hired University of New Mexico meteor expert and Manhattan Project scientist Dr. Lincoln La Paz, in September of 1947 to try to determine the speed and trajectory at the time of  impact of the crashed UFO.
Dr. Lincoln La Paz
According to Rickett, he drove La Paz all over New Mexico for the better part of a month on this project, taking measurements and soil samples and interviewing local ranchers.
La Paz's conclusion was that the crashed craft was an extra-terrestrial device.
Rickett also explained that there were at least two formal reports written about the Roswell UFO crash, one by the aforementioned Dr. La Paz, and one by his boss, counterintelligence Captain Sheridan Cavitt.
In addition, Cavitt, contrary to his statements to investigators right up to his death that  he was 'not involved at all in the Roswell events of July 1947' was, in fact, heavily involved.
Rickett confirmed that it was Cavitt who had accompanied Marcel and Brazel back to Brazel's ranch on that fateful Sunday, July 6, 1947 (Cavitt had denied ever meeting Brazel).
Cavitt was also involved at the UFO 'impact site' - which was not a 'balloon site' as he later told USAF investigators much later.
Rickett had an opportunity to examine some of the wreckage recovered from the Foster Ranch, and he escorted Dr Lincoln La Paz, a meteor expert from the New Mexico Institute of Meteoritics, on a tour of the crash site and the surrounding area.
Rickett explained in a 'phone call, 'The material was very strong and very light.
You could bend it but couldn't crease it.
As far as I know, no one ever figured out what it was made of... (this corroborates what Jesse Marcel Junior reported)
It was La Paz's job to try to find out what the speed and trajectory of the thing was, as La Paz was a world-renowned expert on trajectories of objects in the sky, especially meteors, and I was told to give him all the help I could.
At one point La Paz interviewed Mac Brazel.
I remember something coming up during their conversation about Brazel thinking that some of his animals had acted strangely after this thing happened, and Dr La Paz seemed very
interested in this for some reason.
La Paz wanted to fly over the area, and this was arranged.
During the flight, he found one other spot where he felt this 'thing' had touched down and then taken off again, as the sand at this spot had been turned into a glass-like substance.
We collected a boxful of samples of this material, and as I recall, there were some metal samples too of that same sort of thin foil stuff.
La Paz sent this box off somewhere for study; I don't know or recall where, but I never saw it again.
This place was some miles from the other one.
La Paz was very good at talking to people, especially some of the local ranch hands who didn't speak a lot of English, as La Paz spoke fluent Spanish.
I remember he found a couple of people who had seen two - I don't know what to call them, UFOs I suppose - anyway, they had seen two of these things fly over very slowly, and at a very low altitude on a date, in the evening, that he determined had been a day or two after the other one had blown up. These people said something about animals being affected, too...
Before he went back to Albuquerque, he told me that he was certain that this thing had gotten into trouble, that it had touched down for repairs, taken off again, and then exploded.
He also felt certain there were more than one of these devices, and that the others had been looking for it.
At least that's what he said, and he was positive the thing had malfunctioned.
The Air Force's explanation that it was a balloon was totally untrue.
It was not a balloon.
I never did know for sure what its purpose was, but it wasn't ours.
I remember speculating with La Paz that it might have been some higher civilization checking on us.
La Paz wasn't against the idea, but he was going to leave such speculations out of his report.'

The 'Boss' had used the recorder on his mobile, while he spoke to the witnesses, and he planned later to copy the recordings to his laptop.
The 'Boss' had then contacted Zac in 'Vegas, and sent the files as attachments to an explanatory e-mail, asking that Zac would have the information made into 'hard-copy at his office, by Katrina.
By then Ethan and Glen had come back from their planetarium show.
Ethan was obviously impressed by the planetarium, which was even better that Glen had described to  him.
Snake-skin Cowboy Boots
Ethan was then taken aback somewhat by the next thing that the 'Boss' suggested.
"So let's go and get those boots that you obviously wanted !".
And so Ethan had no option but to pretend that he really wanted a pair of 'genuine snake-skin cowboy boots'.
Ethan tried the boots on in the shop, and surprisingly he found them very comfortable.
The real advantage, however, of this style of footwear for Ethan was the stacked Cuban heel that gave him a little more height - Ethan was always a little bit conscious that he was not very tall - especially when the 'Boss' called him 'my special little guy'...
And, of course, the 'Boss' also bough Jim a similar pair - which gave Jim a little extra height - which Jim didn't really need.
And so they made their way to the nearby McDonald's - which was exactly what Ethan and Glen wanted - in order to meet a mortician - which was really someone that Ethan and Glen didn't want to meet !

Glenn Dennis was a mortician in Roswell in 1947 - was still living in Roswell and was prepared to give his story to the 'Boss' later - in the evening - at the McDonald's in Roswell.
McDonald's - Roswell - New Mexico - Night

Glenn's employer provided mortuary services for Roswell Army Air Field, and Dennis drove a combination hearse and ambulance for both civilian and military assignments.

On July 9 or 10, 1947, Dennis got several phone calls from the Roswell AAF mortuary officer, who was more of an administrator than a mortuary technician.
The officer wanted to know about hermetically sealed caskets  and asked - "What was the smallest one they could get ?", and about chemical solutions.
What was so interesting - making it seem like there was really something involved in these inquiries was because they didn't want to do anything that was going to make an 'imbalance'.
They kept saying, "OK, what's this going to do to the blood system, what's this going to do to the tissue?"
Then when they informed me that these bodies had laid out in the middle of July, in the middle of the prairie - well that body's going to be real dark,  and it's going to be in bad shape.
I was the one who suggested dry ice as I'd done that a time or two.
I talked to them four or five times in the afternoon, but they would keep calling back and asking me different questions involving the body.
What they were really after was how to move those bodies, but hey didn't give me any indication they
even had the bodies, or where they were - but they kept talking about these bodies, and I said, "What do the bodies look like?", and they said, "I don't know, but I'll tell you one thing: this happened some time ago."
The only thing that was mentioned was that they were exposed to the elements for several days.
I understand these bodies weren't in the same location as where they found some of the others.
They said the bodies weren't in the 'vehicle' itself; the bodies were separated by two or three miles from it.
They talked about three different bodies: two of them mangled, one that was in
pretty good shape.
That evening, I took a GI accident victim to the base infirmary, which was in the same building as the hospital and the mortuary.
I walked the injured GI inside, then drove around to the back to see a young Army Air Forces nurse that I'd recently gotten to know.
There were two MPs standing right there, and I got out and started to go in.
I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did if I hadn't parked in the emergency area, and they probably thought I was coming after somebody.
The doors were open to the military ambulances and that's where some wreckage was, and there was an MP on each side.
I saw all the wreckage. I don't know what it was, but I knew there was something
going on, and that's when I first got an inclination that something was happening.
What was so curious about it, was that in two of those ambulances was a something that looked like the bottom half of a canoe.
It didn't look like aluminum - but looked like what stainless steel looks like when you
put heat on it - how it'll turn kinda purplish, with kind of
a blue hue to it, and I saw a row of unrecognizable symbols several inches high on the metal
devices.
I just glanced in and kept going.
When I got inside, I noticed there was quite a bit of
activity, and  I went back into the lounge, there were some high-ranking officers I didn't recognize.
They were really shook up...so then I went down the hall where I usually went, and I got down the hall just a little way and an MP met me right there, and he wanted to know who the hell I was and where I was from, and what business did I have there?
I explained who I was.
Evidently he was under the impression that they called me to come out.
Anyway, I got past that, and I went on in, and then this is where I met the nurse.
She was involved in this thing, and she was on duty.
She asked me, "How in the hell did you get in here ?",
I said, "I just walked in."
She said, "My God, you are going to get killed.", and I said, "They didn't stop
me."
I was going to the Coke machine to get us a Coke, and this big red-headed colonel said, "What's that 'son of a bitch' doing here?",
He hollered at the MPs and that's when 'it hit the fan'.
These two MPs grabbed me by the arms and carried me clear outside.
They carried me to the ambulance - I didn't walk - they carried me.
And they told me to get my ass out of there - and they then followed him back to the funeral home.
About two or three hours later, they called and told me,
"You open your mouth and you'll be in real trouble !"
I just laughed and said, "Go to hell."
The following day I spoke to the nurse.
She said there were three little bodies.
Two of them were just mangled beyond everything, but there was one of them
that was really in pretty good condition.
Then she explained the difference between our anatomy and theirs.
Really, what they looked like was ancient Chinese: small, fragile, no hair."
She said their noses didn't protrude, the eyes were set pretty deep, and the ears were just little indentations.
Also she said the anatomy of the arms was different, the upper arm was longer than the lower.
They didn't have thumbs, and they had four fingers, and didn't have any fingernails.
I asked her were these men or women, and if their sex organs the same as ours ?
She said, "No, they were missing."
She said they got the bodies out of those containers - the
ones I'd seen in the backs of the ambulances, on the way into the hospital.
Aparently they weren't at the crash site, but  were about a mile or two from the crash site.
She said they looked like they had their own little cabins.
She told me the head was larger, and it was kind of like, the eyes were different.
A few weeks later, I heard from my father.
"What the hell'd you get into? What kind of trouble are you
in?",
I said, "I'm not in any trouble.", and he said, "The hell you're not.
The sheriff  - an old friend of my father said that the base personnel have been in and they
want to know all about my background.
Later - after making an official request for information to the USAF, on his return to Los Angeles, the 'Boss' was informed in writing that 'all records from January to October of 1947 were destroyed' - a fact that Faunus already knew (of course), and a fact that the 'Boss' already suspected.
"Well, Sir... are you finally finished ?", Ethan asked as, Glenn Dennis left the McDonald's.
"For the moment, Ethan... yes.", the 'Boss' replied, as he dubiously sipped his Mac Cappuccino.
"I thought Glenn was 'creepy'.
Interesting but 'creepy' - and he looked so old -  about one hundred....", Ethan said.
"No that's not fair.", Faunus said.
"This Roswell thing all happened a long time ago, and after all you are at least two thousand, and no one says you're 'creepy', or look old.", Faunus continued, grinning.
"Well yes... but it seems I'm a special case... and of course it's because I'm young and beautiful...", Ethan said.
The 'Boss' gave Ethan an 'old-fashioned' look.
"Yes... indeed...", the 'Boss' sighed.
"OK... so what now ?", Jim asked.
"I think we should go back to the hotel and relax.", the 'Boss' suggested.
"Well, I'm glad that's all over....
All that business about 'aliens' was beginning to freak me out.", Ethan said.
Ethan, of course knew nothing about the encounter with the alien in Arizona, (he was in 'Vegas at the time) - or the actual origins of Glen for that matter.
Strangely Ethan and Glen were now firm buddies - but neither Ethan nor Glen new of Glen's true origins that night in the Arizona desert - and possibly, if Ethan had known, he would have been a little more wary of his new companion - especially considering what was about to happen...

Unknown to the 'Boss' and the 'boys', the 'Men in Black' have been keeping watch, and are aware that much information has been given out about the 'Roswell Incident'. Also, and not surprisingly, the aliens - who have already had one of their number 'abducted', are far from happy - and in their own 'confused' way are planning their revenge - but also are furthering their attempts to understand 'humans'...
