After a brief problem with the Government Agents - there is a long awaited reunion of the 'boys' and Teddy with Josh, Novius and, of course Glaux - followed by excellent dining, lots of shopping, and some sight-seeing - followed by a review of previous events and future plans.

Kimpton Hotel Monaco - Denver
Kimpton Hotel Monaco - Entrance
"You'd think I would have learned my lesson when you - presumably - deliberately 'bumped into me' in the Mexican jungle.", the 'Boss' concluded, as he took a strong gulp of his Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey.
There were far too many bellhops for the meager amount of luggage that the two autos held, but still - it looked good - impressed the people passing on the side-walk, and also some of the guests milling around in the reception area.
The Cadillac Outside the Kimpton Hotel - Denver
Unfortunately the Manager, Richards, was not in the reception area, and his place was being taken at the time by a callow youth, who was doing his best to be the assistant manager.
The 'Boss', however, not anticipating any problems strode up to the reception.
"My name is Johnson, and I reserved some suites yesterday.
"Ah yes sir.....", the callow youth replied, reading off his computer screen.
"A suite for Mr. Ethan Duncan and Mr. Teddy Duncan...."
At that point Ethan started giggling.
The Assistant Manager tried to compose himself, and continued....
"And an adjoining suite for Mr. James Johnson... (that, dear reader is 'Jaguar Jim')
A suite for Mr. Glen Johnson...
A suite for Señor Don Picaro... (Faunus)
And a deluxe suite for yourself, Sir.", the Assistant Manager continued.
"Yes, and that's not Señor Don Picaro - just Don Picaro, otherwise it's like saying 'Mr. Mr.' - if you get my meaning.", the 'Boss' said, smiling.
Then it came to showing their documentation.
But when it came to Teddy Duncan there was a problem.
"Excuse me sir, but where is Mr. Teddy Duncan ?", the Assistant manager asked.
"Oh, he's in the Walmart bag.", the 'Boss' said, casually.
The Assistant manager looked uncomprehending.
"He's a teddy-bear...", the 'Boss' explained, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"You mean that you are paying for a suite for a stuffed toy ?", the Assistant Manager asked - sounding quite offended.
"Well why not..? He likes his privacy...", the 'Boss' replied.
Jim listened, amazed.
It was the first time he had ever known the 'Boss' to joke in such a way.
Presumably this was the way the 'Boss' behaved when he was 'on holiday'.
"Excuse me one minute, Sir... I need to speak to the manager.", the assistant manager said haughtily.
Moments later the Manager appeared.
"Ah... Mr Johnson !... So pleased that you are staying with us again !", the Manager said, smiling broadly, as he asked his assistant to leave the reception desk.
"Sorry if there's been a problem... he's new.", the manager said, as if that  explained everything.
"Well, the reservations seem to be in order.", the Manager said, obviously ignoring the fact that there was no Mr Teddy Duncan in sight.
"I will have the bellhops take your luggage up to your suites immediately.", the Manager said, as he organised his staff.
"Thank you Mr. Richards", the 'Boss' said, turning to Glen and Ethan.
"Boys, go with the staff and check the rooms, please."
The 'Boss' then turned to the manager again.
"I'm here to meet Mr Joshua Walton and Mr Nathan Smith -  (Josh and Novius).
Have they arrived ?"
"Ah yes, Mr. Johnson...
They came here - with a 'baby owl'.
Now while we are a 'pet friendly' hotel, we have never had a guest staying here with a - shall we say - non-domesticated pet - but as the reservation was made in your name I have made an exception.", the Manager explained.
"Of course, and can I explain that 'Glaux' is not a pet, but is completely house trained, and will forage for his own food in the evening, and is guaranteed to cause no problems to any of your other guests - and I will pay the full, adult human rate for him."
"Oh no, Mr Johnson, it is our privilege to accommodate such a fine looking bird.", the Manager continued, being rather excessively subservient.
"Oh, and one thing...", the 'Boss' interrupted.
"Please ensure that your staff never refer to him as a 'bird', or an 'owl'.
He is 'Glaux' - the word being Greek for owl.
"Of course, sir.", the Manager replied, looking somewhat mystified.
And so Jim and the 'boys' had another lesson in how useful it could be to be excruciatingly wealthy.
"Should I ask Mr Walton and Mr Nathan Smith to meet you here in reception ?", the manager then asked.
"Well not here - it's too public.
Do you have some small quiet lounge where we could meet ?", the 'Boss' asked.
"Yes of course, just follow me gentlemen.", the manager said, as he handed the reception over to his assistant.

At that moment the two men in dark suites who had previously been waiting outside the hotel came up to the reception desk.
"You are Mr. Johnson ?", the taller of the two men said.
"Yes... who's asking." the 'Boss' replied.
Both men flipped out identity cards indicating that they were agents of the CIA.
United States Intelligence Community
CIA Logo
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is a civilian intelligence service of the Federal Government of the United States, tasked with gathering, processing, and analyzing national security information, primarily through the use of human intelligence (HUMINT). As one of the principal members of the United States Intelligence Community (IC), the CIA reports to the Director of National Intelligence, and is primarily focused on providing intelligence for the President and Cabinet of the United States. The CIA headquarters is situated at Langley, Virginia.
US Department of the Interior
Now at that point nobody had realized that when the very confused registration process at the reception desk had reached the point where the Assistant Manager had stumbled on the problem of Mr Teddy Duncan, Faunus had discreetly disappeared - literally !
At the same time Teddy - ready for 'action', had poked his head out of his Walmart bag.
"Yes..." said the 'Boss' as he checked the men's identity details.
"And what can I do for you ?", the 'Boss asked, quite calmly.
"We need to discuss a couple of unauthorized helicopter flights that took place recently in Wyoming  over land controlled by the US Department of the Interior.
Agent James Smith - (Faunus)
At that point a young man emerged from one of the elevators near the reception area.
Jim, of course, recognize him immediately... it was the dubiously named 'Agent Smith' !
The last time that Jim had seen him was at Area 51, where Smith had 'rescued' Jim from Dr Brandt ... so what was 'Smith' up to this time ?
Smith went up to the two men who were talking to the 'Boss'.
"Is there a problem here, Mr. Johnson ?", Smith asked, very formally.
"Well yes... actually there is.
These two gentlemen, who claim to be agents of the CIA, wish to speak to me about some sort of flight over Government land in Wyoming.
For the life of me, I can't think what they are talking about.", the 'Boss' replied, having obviously realized that Agent Smith was none other than Faunus, in one of his many disguises.
"I see...", Agent Smith said, with a touch of resignation in his voice.
Smith then turned to the two CIA operatives.
"Well it' a long way from Langley to Denver, and a shame to make such an arduous trip for no reason."
The two CIA men looked at one another, puzzled and obviously annoyed.
"And just who might you be ?", the apparently more senior of the two operatives asked roughly.
"And who might you be... Sir.", might sound a little better, Smith replied.
"Come on now... don't play games with us.
Just clear off, or I'll slap a Federal case on you for obstruction.", the junior operative said aggressively.
Agent Smith's Identity Tagg
NSA Logo
Smith pulled an identity tag out of his pocket, and held it up for them to see.
"I'm a Senior Operative of the National Security Agency, and I have control of this case, which is outside your jurisdiction, so I suggest you take the next flight to Virginia.
The National Security Agency (NSA) is a national-level intelligence agency of the United States Department of Defense, under the authority of the Director of National Intelligence. The NSA is responsible for global monitoring, collection, and processing of information and data for foreign and domestic intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The NSA relies on a variety of measures to accomplish its mission, the majority of which are clandestine.
After showing them his credentials, Smith opened his ultra slim, black leather document case, extracted some papers, and gave one copy to each of the bewildered CIA agents.
"Right Sir... Sorry to have caused a problem... Sir...", the more senior of the two operatives mumbled, as they turned and made their way out of the hotel lobby and onto the sidewalk.
"Well... I'm beginning to see how you rescued our Jim from Area 51 !", the 'Boss' said, in apparent admiration - but the 'Boss' was concerned.
It had all seemed a little too easy.

Private Lounge
Regardless, the 'Boss' allowed the hotel manager to guide them to a comfortably furnished small lounge, where they awaited the arrival of Josh, Novius and Glaux.
"Well this is a bit more like it !...", Jim said as they entered the lounge.
The 'Boss' glanced round, smiling.
"Well you see, Jim, there's taste and taste - or rather bad taste and good taste.
We've seen a lot of bad taste recently - so this is really rather refreshing."
The 'Boss' turned to the Manager.
"Mr Richards, would it be possible for us to have this lounge reserved for myself, and for my guests, for the duration of our stay  ? - It's very appropriate for our requirements.", the 'Boss' inquired.
"Well...", Evans began, considering the rather unusual request.
The 'Boss' reached into his jacket, and withdrew one of those crisp, white envelopes that usually smoothed matters.
"But of course... in that case I can see no problem.", Richards quietly and discreetly replied, as he took the envelope.
"I will have keys brought to you immediately."
"Excellent...", the 'Boss' said smiling, and indicating to the 'boys' to be seated.
Faunus, or was it 'Agent Smith', however, had disappeared.
Meanwhile, Ethan had helped Teddy out of his Walmart bag, and had let Teddy sit on his knee.
Teddy looked around.
"Nice place.", Teddy said, approvingly.
Finally Josh - with Glaux -  and Novius arrived, escorted by a young bellhop, who gave the 'Boss' the keys to the suite.
"So... your arrived safely, Novius !", the 'Boss' said in typically restrained 'Roman' style.
Josh went straight to Ethan.
"I see you've still got Teddy.", Josh said.... equally nervous about showing any emotion.
"Yes, and you've still got that 'bird'.", Ethan replied, as Glaux scowled, as only a very 'strange' owl can.
"Oh, and this is Glen... and I'll leave him to tell his story when he feels ready.", the 'Boss' said, making a quick introduction.
Moments later Faunus - who was no longer masquerading as 'Agent Smith', joined the group.
Los Angeles Airport - California
Villa de los Jaguares
Glen, of course, was fascinated by Glaux, and interestingly, Glaux was fascinated by Glen.
Glaux of course, could sense Glen's 'origins', and was trying to open a telepathic link.
So while waiters were taking orders for refreshment, Josh and Novius began telling of their time at the 'Villa de los Jaguares', near Los Angeles, and their subsequent flight from LAX to Denver (DEN) - using acronyms like regular travelers - while Glaux and Teddy communed silently.
"The flight was amazing  !", Josh said, taking over from Novius.
"I was quite scared when we took off, but once we were in the air, it was wonderful.
Imperial Valley - California
When we started off, we went over all these green fields, set out in perfect squares - looked a bit like a Roman City, but made up of fields, and not blocks of buildings.
The young lady who was looking after us..."
"The 'stewardess',", the 'Boss' explained, helping Josh out -
"Yes, the 'stewardess', she said it was called the 'Imperial Valley', where lots of fruit was grown."
The 'Valle de Imperial' lies in southeastern Southern California, and is the site of an urban area largely centered on the city of El Centro. The Valley is bordered by the Colorado River to the east and, in part, the Salton Sea to the west. Complex irrigation allows agriculture to be the largest industry in the Imperial Valley.
Flying over the Sonoran Desert
"It was how I imagine the gods view the world...", Novius added.
"Later we passed over a very arid area... like a desert.", Josh continued
The Sonoran Desert is home to the cultures of over seventeen contemporary Native American tribes, with settlements at American Indian reservations in California and Arizona. The largest city in the Sonoran Desert is Phoenix, Arizona. Located on the Salt River in central Arizona, it is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States. The next largest city is Tucson, in south in Southern Arizona.
The End of the Journey - Almost
"Don't we know it !", Jim said.
"The desert might look all very nice from high up, but in an open topped 'convertible-thingy', with the sand blowing all around, it's not so good - and then you have to pay the bell-hops to clean the cars every day.", Ethan added.
"Anyway, slowly the ground below us became greener, and then more hilly, and finally we could see mountains on the horizon, and then the 'plane began to descend, and we came into Denver.
I found the descent a bit scary, and the landing was a bit bumpy and noisy - but it's an exciting way to travel.
Denver Airport - Colorado
"And the other thing is it's quick - not like going everywhere down long straight roads in an auto, and stopping off in smelly diners for greasy meals.", Ethan said.
"True..", the 'Boss' added, "but at least you got a chance to see the country."
"Yes, Sir... 'suppose so.", Ethan said doing his inimitable impersonation of 'Thumper'.
"So what happened about Glaux ?", Glen asked.
"Glaux ? Well he has his own ways of getting about, but he doesn't tell anybody about it - even me...", Josh replied.
"Except maybe me and Faunus...", Teddy said knowingly.
"And your rooms... is everything OK ?", the 'Boss' asked Novius.
"Yes... of course, Gnæus... and even better than at the Arizona Inn in Tucson - but then you can come up to my suite later, and have a look yourself."
"So, perhaps if's a good idea if we all get ready for dinner, and then we can talk more.", the 'Boss' suggested.
And so everybody went to their new accommodation - but Glaux joined Teddy in Ethan's suite.

Dining Room - Kimpton Hotel Monaco
Well as you probably know, there's lots to do when you arrive in a new town, in a new hotel after a long journey, (only Novius and Josh had a relatively short journey - although as for Glaux, well nobody really knew).
And things were not made any easier for Ethan by Glaux pacing around the suite, poking his beak into everything, while Teddy - clumsy as ever - tried to help Ethan unpack.
Eventually however, they all met again in reception and then, led by the 'Boss' and Jim, processed to the dining room.
"I think that you're going to like this, Jim.", the 'Boss' said, smiling, as they arrived at a large circular table, especially reserved for them, and beautifully laid with fine cutlery, napkins and flowers.
The 'Rabbit Ear Diner'
"Yes Sir, it's very good, and almost up to the standard of your establishments.", Jim replied.
"And its certainly better than the 'Rabbit Ear' diner, where they didn't even serve grilled rabbit's ears.", Ethan added, as he followed Jim and the 'Boss' into the dining room.
"I think you mean 'our establishments', Jim.", the 'Boss' said, pointedly.
And so the 'Penthouse Gang' stood deferentially, waiting for the 'Boss' to take his seat.
"What are you waiting for, gentlemen... be seated !", the 'Boss' said warmly.
And so the dinner began, and there was only one member of the Gang missing - Zac - who was 'holding the fort' in 'Vegas - and also perhaps Brody, but it was not quite clear if he was truly a member of the Gang, although the 'alien leader' had seemed to think so.
On either side of the 'Boss' sat Jim and Faunus - with Ethan sitting next to Jim.
As they began their hors d'oeuvre, the 'Boss' turned to Faunus.
"I'm worried about that business when we arrived and were registering.", the 'Boss' began, obviously wanting to talk business.
"And why is that, Sir ?", Faunus asked.
CIA Agents - CIA HQ - Langley - Virginia
"Well... the CIA agents get back to Langley, and what will they report ?....that the NSA has taken over the case.... and then the CIA will contact the NSA, and the NSA will say they have no 'Agent' Smith, and know nothing about the matter, and then the CIA will be back, knocking on our door.", the 'Boss' said rather tersely.
"Possibly... but actually the CIA agents will report that they came to the hotel, and Richards (the hotel manager) will say that no one called Johnson has reserved accommodation or  registered at the hotel.
They will remember that they then left the hotel 'empty handed' and returned to Langley.
They will have no memory of an Agent Smith working for the NSA, and so Langley will not contact the NSA.
Anyone who comes to check the hotel subsequently will find the computer records wiped, along with all the CCTV.
Effectively we not only have never been here, but are not even here now...", Faunus explained - although in 'reality' - if such a thing actually existed, his explanation was almost impossible for any 'simple human' to understand.
Faunus as a Mayan Indian
And anyway, who would believe that a teddy-bear and an owl had booked into a five star hotel in Denver, Colorado ?", Faunus explained.
"Yes.. I get your point...", the 'Boss' said wearily.
"I sometimes wonder why I ever worry about anything... as you always have everything 'sewn up', in a most improbable way, that defies all logic...
And this has been going on ever since you came to me in that Mexican jungle, pretending to be a young Mayan Indian, and accompanied by a very unlikely bird.", the 'Boss' said, pretending, but not very convincingly, to be annoyed with Faunus.
Both Jim and Ethan, who were close enough to hear this exchange, smiled knowingly.
Glaux, of course, fortunately for the 'Boss', had not come to the dinner, as he had his own dinner arrangements, and was out hunting for unwary small mammals.
Ethan's Suite
Meanwhile, Teddy had accepted that, as he didn't actually eat, it would be better for him to stay in Ethan's suite where, happily whistling to himself, (yes, teddy-bears, at least teddy-bears like Teddy, can whistle), he tidied up the mess that Ethan had left in his efforts to get ready for dinner.
American Fauns - or 'Classical Aliens' ?
As the dinner progressed, Glen, who was sitting with Josh and Novius, became involved in lively discussion about the involvement of the group with the 'aliens'.
Neither Josh or Novius had much knowledge regarding 'aliens', and were fascinated with the information that Glen was giving them.
Novius explained that in studying Greek, Etruscan and Latin texts, which covered many hundreds of years, he had come across numerous accounts of 'strange objects in the heavens', but he suspected that what humans now call 'aliens' were often interpreted in Classical times as 'gods' or mythological beings, such as centaurs, nymphs, cupids, satyrs and Fauns.
The mention of 'fauns' made Josh smile, as that is what Faunus 'pretended' to be when he first met Josh in the forest at Tibur
By that stage in the discussion, the meal was coming to an end, a the 'Boss' suggested that they all retire to their private Lounge, as the 'Boss' wanted to discuss some matters in private.
"Can I go and get Teddy ?", Ethan asked, not wanting his furry friend to be left out.
"Of course Ethan... but be quick...", the 'Boss' replied, as they all rose to leave their table, while the 'Boss' generously rewarded the Maître d' for providing fine service.
Private Lounge
Back in their private lounge, once everyone was seated, the 'Boss' began his explanation why they had left the public areas of the hotel....just as Ethan arrived clutching Teddy.
"I am sure that you were all aware of the incident hat occurred at reception earlier - and incident that Faunus assures me has been satisfactorily dealt with, however, we must all understand that in this society the government is highly suspicious of any events which it neither controls or understand, and that same government, while outwardly espousing the principles of freedom and justice will cast aside all such considerations in it's attempt to discover what people are undertaking in an attempt to gain control of advanced technologies and advanced abilities.". the 'Boss' began.
"Oh I do love it when he uses all those fancy words...", Ethan said under his breath.
"Thank you Ethan...", the 'Boss' said, smiling.
"So we must be circumspect.
We have had enough trouble with Dr Brandt, without making more problems for ourselves", the 'Boss' said.
Dr. Sigmund Brandt
Die Glocke
"And all these problems are the result of us - I mean all the 'boys', and myself, being here ?, Novius asked. (remember that Novius and Josh has been closeted in the 'Villa de los Jaguares' in Los Angeles while many of these matters have been occurring)
"Yes, in a way.
It began with a certain Dr.Brandt, who had been working on a method of inter-dimensional travel for the Third Reich - identified as 'Project Kronos'.
Then, when he was captured by the Americans, they got him to continue that work for themselves.
He started off with 'Project Rainbow', in partnership with Dr. Franklin Reno, and John von Neumann, a Hungarian who was generally regarded as the foremost mathematician of his time.
John von Neumann
Project Rainbow was not originally aimed at exploring the possibility of inter-dimensional travel, but that subsequently became a by product of the largely unsuccessful research which was later transferred to Montauk, Long Island, under the appellation 'Project Moonbeam'.
This research relied on the use of high power 'SAGE' Radar.
Brandt, however, was not a physicist, mathematician or an expert in electronics, but rather a psychologist, and wanted to abandon the use of complex technology, and rely on the abilities of the human mind alone.
Sage Radar
In order to do this he was allowed to move his research to an establishment at Groom Lake, (Nellis Bombing Range Test Site), in Nevada - which was wise in the circumstances, as the 'Montauk Project' at 'Camp Hero' had by then run into serious difficulties.
Brandt also ran a private practice in 'Vegas, and it was through that work that he hoped to find suitable subjects for his research.
Unfortunately, as a result of a serious misjudgment on my part, Jim here, because of his severe amnesia, ended up being treated by Brandt, and was subsequently 'kidnapped' and taken the Brandt's research establishment at Groom Lake, which is usually refereed to as 'Area 51'.
Groom Lake - Nevada
Fortunately Faunus was able to rescue Jim, but not before 'aliens', who claimed that they  were equally searching for a 'simple' means of 'inter-dimensional travel', latched onto Jim, and also onto us.
At the same time, the US Government, who employed and funded Brandt, became aware that he had 'lost' his one, apparently successful test subject, and began pursuing Brandt.
Fortunately we were able to 'acquire' Brandt, and his female assistant.......".
"This is where me and Teddy come in...", Ethan interrupted.
'Sigi'
"Yes... thank you Ethan... the 'Boss' said with a weak smile, "and Faunus and Teddy... with Ethan's help... were able to 'neutralize' Brandt by 'regressing' him, and 'wiping' his memory - so now, hopefully, he's no longer a problem."
And Ethan interrupted again...
"Yes, and we sent Maria - with her memory wiped... to Mexico... of all places."
"Thank you Ethan...", and the 'Boss' struggled to continue.
"But we still have the problem with the 'aliens', and whoever tipped off the CIA about us being at the Devils Tower.", the 'Boss' explained.
'Bob' White - Helicopter Pilot
"Well that was 'Bob' White... our friendly helicopter pilot...", Faunus said.
"And how do you know ?", the 'Boss' asked.
"Don't worry, I checked it out.
'Bob' was an ex-US army pilot - but also had connections with the intelligence services, and he obviously got suspicious - maybe he had even seen something - and then got onto the CIA.", Faunus explained.
"OK... well I'll get on to Kurt about that...
Our friend 'Bob' won't be doing much flying after Kurt has organized something for him.", the 'Boss' said - revealing once again his more ruthless side.
"Shame about 'Bob'...", Jim muttered, "I quite liked him."
The 'Boss' looked to Jim
"Yes, probably.... but I  think it shows that we must all be on our guard.", the 'Boss' said ruefully.
"Well I think we are all agreed on that.", Novius said, "but where do we go from there."
"I think first we should spend  little time relaxing, and then a little shopping - just to keep Ethan happy.
Later I would like to spend time with you, Novius, in order to discuss recent events in more detail, and I think that it would be good for Jim, Ethan and Glen to talk with Josh about the research that he has been jointly undertaking with Novius.", the 'Boss' suggested.
"So now I wish to thank you all for taking dinner with me, and I wish you all a very good night.", the 'Boss' said in conclusion
With that the 'Boss', Faunus and Novius left the private lounge.
"I'd love to know where they're off to, and what they're going to talk about.", Ethan said to Jim.
"Don't worry, Ethan, I can tell you later.", Teddy said confidently.
"How come ?", Jim asked.
"Well I have a private telepathic link to Faunus.
He can't keep any secrets from me.", Teddy explained.
"Useful...", Ethan said thoughtfully.
"Very...", Teddy replied.
"Tell me,", Ethan asked, "are you an 'alien' spy ?"
"Not telling.", Teddy replied.

"So...  are you going to take me shopping ?", Teddy asked, as he nudged Ethan.
Ethan grunted, turned over, and pretended to go back to sleep.
Teddy waited for a couple of minutes, and then started jumping up and down on Ethan's back.
"Stop it ! Teddy !",  Ethan groaned.
"If you're going to behave like that, I'm going to sleep with Jim, and put you in a wardrobe !", Ethan said.
"Maybe that would be a good thing...", Teddy said, sitting angrily on one of Ethan's pillows.
"At least when you've been with Jim for the night, you're in a better mood in the morning.", Teddy said.
"And what's that supposed to mean ?", Ethan asked.
"Now you don't need for me to spell it out, surely.", Teddy replied.
"Any way, why do you want to go shopping ?
You've got no money, and you don't need anything.", Ethan said, as he slowly got out of bed, and made his way to the bathroom.
Breakfast Room
"I've told you before... I might want to buy you a present, and I'll use one of your cards", Teddy said, and Ethan didn't even try to answer that.
And so, little by little they all arrived at the breakfast room - with the exception of the 'Boss', Faunus and Novius.
Jim turned to Josh
So where are the 'big three' ?"
"If you mean the 'Boss', Faunus and Novius, the're having their breakfast in their private lounge." Josh replied
"Ah... more special meetings...", Ethan said.
"Possibly...", Teddy said quietly, so as not to draw the attention of the other guests to the fact that he could talk.

"So where to go for some serious shopping ?", Ethan then asked.
"No idea... like most of these places, I've never been here before.", Jim replied.
"I know...", muttered Teddy.
Jim, Ethan, Josh and Glen all looked at the little bear, who was desperately trying to look like a stuffed toy.
"And how's that ?", Glen asked.
"I saw Faunus check it out on his laptop.", Teddy replied.
"OK... Then why not tell us.", Ethan said, sounding exasperated.
"I will... if you ask nicely.", Teddy replied.
"OK Teddy...  my favorite bear...  where can we do some serious shopping ?", Josh asked in such a sweet way that it was quite impossible - even for a grumpy teddy-bear - to refuse him.
"Denver Pavilions - and by the way, if I'm your favorite bear, who are the other bears ?"
No one bothered to answer, however, as Jim was almost immediately asking on of the waiters about how to get to 'Denver Pavilions'.
Then, almost before he knew what was happening, Teddy found himself being carried at break neck speed to the elevators.
At least Ethan allowed him to press the buttons, which was something that Teddy looked forward to every day. but then he was flung onto the bed, while Ethan and Jim got ready.
"You will take me with you ?", Teddy pleaded, not wanting to spend the rest on the morning sitting on pillows.
Denver Pavilions - Mall - Colorado
So while we wait for Jim, Ethan, Josh and Glen to get ready for their shopping expedition, here's some information: Denver Pavilions is a shopping mall located on the 16th Street Mall in Downtown Denver, Colorado. The mall has over 40 stores and restaurants. It is an 'open-air' mall, and the Pavilions takes advantage of Denver's many sunny days. In addition to retail stores, the mall hosts several chain restaurants, including 'Maggianos', 'Corner Bakery', 'Coyote Ugly Saloon', 'Lucky Strike Lanes', 'Hard Rock Cafe', and others. The mall also houses a popular, 15-screen movie theater, and there is a large, underground parking garage so what about that !
Eventually they all arrived back at reception, and then waited for Jim to bring round the convertible.
Once everybody was on board, they set off, with Teddy avidly taking in all the sights of Denver.
McDonalds - 16th Street - Denver - Colorado
Fortunately Teddy had discovered that there was a McDonalds at 16th Street, and so he could get back in Ethan's 'good books' (after having jumped on Ethan's back first thing, in bed), by telling Jim where to go.
And so it was cheeseburgers and 'Pepsi Max' all round - just like in the 'old days' in 'Vegas, (not really that long ago - but that's how it seemed).
But Teddy had to go back into his Walmart bag as he didn't eat cheeseburgers.
And so they arrived at the 'Denver Pavilions'.
"You know Josh, we were recently in a town where they had no shops at all - at least no shops to speak of.", Ethan said as they walked into the open air mall.
"And where was that ?", Josh asked.
"Well, 'better not say.", Ethan replied.
"But I complained to the 'alien leader' about it...
Fancy getting us to drive all that way to have a meeting with those 'pesky aliens', and we end up in a town with no shops !", Ethan continued, indignantly.
"So tell me about these 'aliens', Ethan." Josh asked, obviously fascinated about the idea of extraterrestrials.
"Well later, Josh...  I want to do some shopping first.", Ethan said, as he headed for a touch screen guide to the mall.
"Remember how I had to teach yo how to use one of these things, Jim ?",
"Yes... That was in 'Vegas, when I was still having trouble with my memory.", Jim recalled.
Ethan studied the guide to the mall.
"Well guys... I don't seem to see many of our kind of shops... !, Ethan said, looking at Jim, Josh and Glen.
"OK... so lets just have a look around.", Josh said, sounding a little disappointed.
Josh, of course, had been living in Los Angeles, in California, before his trip to Denver, and Los Angeles was undoubtedly a really great place for shopping, as all the 'boys' (except Glen), knew only too well - as, on a number of occasions,  they had shopped there with the 'Boss'.
And so they traipsed around the grandly named 'Denver Pavilions' looking for some 'good stores', but most of them were what Ethan would describe as 'girly, boutiquey thingys'.
And so they decided to look elsewhere.
"You know sometimes I think the Internet is overrated,", Josh said.
"It's all right for Novius, when he's looking up all these obscure facts - but when you simply try to find out about good 'guy's stores', it sends you off to places like this."
And the 'boys' all agreed with Josh.
"So - where to go ?", Glen asked.
"Well why not take a cab, and ask the cab driver for his advice.", Jim suggested.
"Why not... better than wandering around this place...", Ethan said.
Denver Yellow Cab
So they hailed a cab.
To begin with the cab driver was a bit wary.
He sensed that they were not your average tourists, but he could also see, by the expensive way that they were dressed, that they were not 'street kids' - despite the fact that Ethan was carrying a Walmart bag, (not very 'cool').
"So where do you 'boys' come from ?", the driver asked - still puzzled by Ethan's request... 'Take us to some decent shops !'.
"Oh... we come from 'Vegas.", Ethan said, feeling that saying that would not give much away.
"Long way from home... guys.", the cab driver said, sounding a little suspicious.
"Yep... we're doing a trip with our uncle...", Josh said.
"So where' you guys stayin' ?", the Driver asked, trying to be careful, but also possibly checking that he was going to get his fare.
"The Kimpton Monaco...", Jim replied.
"Oh... very nice !" the driver replied, obviously suitability impressed.
"Well there is a place... in Larimer Square... but expensive.", the driver suggested.
"No problemo.... take us there, my man !", Ethan said, putting on his usual act.
And a little later...
"Here we are, gentlemen.", the driver announced, pulling up at an elegant shop, in an elegant square.
So the 'boys' climbed out of the cab, and waited on the sidewalk for Ethan to continue embarrassing them.
"You don't mind waiting - we may be some time ?", Ethan said imperiously.
"That's fine Sir, but it will cost...", the driver replied politely.
"No problem...", Ethan replied.
'Moda Man' - Larimer Square
And so they entered 'Moda Man'.
"Weird name...", Glen commented.
"Yes... but at least they haven't got swirly carpets.", Ethan added, presumably referring to the hotel in Sundance.
"Well this is more like it !", Jim said enthusiastically, looking round at the tastefully displayed items.
And in next to no time they were being bothered by the usual kind of obsequious shop-assistant.
"I fancy a leather jacket like Faunus wears...", Josh said.
"Creep !", Teddy muttered from inside his Walmart bag.
"Shut up, Teddy !", Ethan said quietly, hoping not to draw attention to himself.
Unfortunately the shop-assistant became suspicious, and asked Ethan to show him the contents of the bulging Walmart bag.
"You might regret this...", Ethan said politely, as he allowed the assistant to take a peek.
Teddy, taking advantage of the situation, looked up at the assistant, trying to appear as appealing and as fluffy as possible.
"Hi ! ", Teddy said disarmingly.
The shop-assistant looked shocked, and quietly went back to his cash-desk without a word, and started furiously tidying up some papers in a desperate attempt  to ignore what he had just seen and heard.
The 'boy's then started seriously checking out the goods.
Some items were tossed to one side, and some formed four piles - one for Jim, one for Ethan, one for Josh and one for Glen.
Not surprisingly, Ethan's was the largest pile, and Glen's was the smallest.
Glen, obviously, had not yet got used to the idea of spending his money freely.
Having tried on those items that needed to be tried on, and having paraded themselves in front of mirrors and one another, and then bothered the assistants with requests for different colors, styles and patterns, the time came to pay.
Paying was complicated.
They could have put all the items on Jim's card, but as that might have looked a bit odd, they each decided to pay separately - and that took time.
Then, laden down with lots of bags - not forgetting the rather unfashionable Walmart bag containing Ethan's beloved Teddy, they made their way back to the waiting cab.
"OK... well I think other shops for another day, so let's get back to the hotel for lunch.", Jim said.
Once they got back to the  Kimpton Monaco, Ethan very generously paid for the cab, and got the driver's number, as he seemed to know at least one good shop in Denver, and Jim gave the driver a hefty tip.
"So, you didn't buy me a present.", Ethan said to Teddy, as he let Teddy out of his bag in order to press the elevator buttons.
"Maybe tomorrow - if  you're good, and get up on time.", Teddy replied.

"So... how was your morning - doing some shopping, I believe ?", the 'Boss' asked, as they all began their lunch.
As usual, it was up to Jim to reply.
"Yes Sir... we went to the Denver Pavilions...", Jim replied, hesitantly - wondering how the 'Boss' knew the purpose of their outing.
"And...?", the 'Boss' queried.
"Not much good, Sir...", Ethan said, butting in.
"And so...?", the 'Boss' continued.
"Well, we got a cab, and asked the driver to take us to a good shop, and he took us to 'Moda Man' in Larimer Square.
"And was it good ?", the 'Boss' then asked, obviously hoping for more information.
"Very, Sir... we bought lots of stuff...", Glen explained.
"Well I'm pleased - there haven't been many opportunities for much shopping while you've been on this journey.", the 'Boss' said.
"Right !... so I took the number of the cab driver, and I'll ring him tomorrow, and we can go to some more shops tomorrow - and if you're not busy, you can come with us.", Ethan said, diplomatically.
"And this cab driver... did he ask you much about yourselves ?", the 'Boss' asked, apparently innocently.
At that point the 'boys' could see the purpose of the questioning.
"Oh, just where we were from... 'Vegas, and Josh said we were with our uncle, and I said that we were staying at the Kimpton Monaco.", Jim explained, thinking that maybe they had been a little gullible, and possibly stupid.
"And the cab... was it 'beat up', or new ?", the 'Boss' said, continuing his questioning.
"Oh very new... like it had just come out of a showroom....", Ethan said - beginning to realize that they might have done something rather unwise.
"Well... no matter... but Ethan, if you 'phone him tomorrow, keep your number hidden, and get him to pick you up somewhere other than our hotel.
"Yes Sir, I'll get him to pick us up at the McDonalds at 16th Street.", Ethan said.
"Excellent, Ethan, and I'll arrange for someone nearby to check  number plate, 'phone number and cab number.
"And who'll do that, Sir?", Glen asked.
"Best you don't know...", the 'Boss' replied.
"Now 'boys'... listen.
You know that we nearly had a difficult problem when we first arrived - and there's no reason to believe that the gentlemen wanting to talk to us have just decided to go away - so I have to say again... you must be on your guard.
So, when you go shopping tomorrow, I want Faunus to be with you - and don't take Teddy - even if he makes a fuss about being left behind.", the 'Boss' said emphatically.
"Yes Sir... and sorry if we did anything stupid..", Jim said.
"That's OK... hopefully no harm's been done.... so go and try your new things on after lunch, and then maybe a swim, and after dinner I thought  you might like to come with me to the movies....".
And that was a surprise...

So while the boys unpacked and tried on their new clothes and shoes, and then went for a swim, the 'Boss', Novius and Faunus adjourned to their private lounge for a further meeting.
Private Lounge
"Now since that unfortunate meeting with the CIA, we must keep an eye on the 'boys'.
They're young, and in Ethan's case, naive, and not always careful in what they say, and are getting too relaxed about taking Teddy around with them.", the 'Boss' said, sounding very serious.
"Tell me, Gnæus, what precisely is this CIA !", Novius asked.
"Well, to the best of my knowledge, the CIA - Central Intelligence Agency - is a civilian intelligence service of the Federal Government of the United States, tasked with gathering, processing, and analyzing national security information primarily through the use of human intelligence.
Now although they have denied it publicly, the CIA is also tasked with trying to sort out this business about UFOs, and so-called 'aliens - although officially that has been the task of the Air-force.
The CIA were the guys who wanted to talk to us at reception when we arrived here, but thanks to Faunus we got rid of them.", the 'Boss' explained.
"And explain to me about these 'aliens'.", Novius then asked.
"Well nobody really knows what, or who they are - but one thing is certain, they're 'non-human' - a bit like 'lesser daemons' or elementals - at least their 'leaders' are - although that's just my guess - but most of them appear to have a slave-like mentality.
And what they're actually up to nobody really knows.", the 'Boss' said.
Novius nodded, obviously taking in all this strange information.
"So anyway, if the boys are still intent on going shopping again, I want you, Faunus, to go with them - just to keep and eye on them, as they will probably use the same cab-driver - and he sounds to me somewhat suspicious."
"Right, Sir.", Faunus replied.
"Now as for our present position, although this is a good hotel, and the 'boys' seem to like Denver, I still think it would be wise to move on.
Firstly, because I have two more tasks to complete in this part of the country, and secondly because I feel that we have been away from 'Vegas and San Francisco for far too long.", the 'Boss' said.
"True... so where are you planning to go before we head back to 'Vegas. ?", Faunus asked.
Faunus already knew, but he asked for the sake of Novius.
"I need to go to Kansas first,  to check out a likely prospect for Kurt ...", the 'Boss' replied.
"And how far is this Kansas ?", Novius asked.
"Well it's about seven hours to Wichita - by auto, so it's best that you travel in the Cadillac with me.", the 'Boss' explained, having already checked the times.
And we'll need to stop over at Colby for the night.
"And then where to ?", Novius asked.
High-School Wrestling
"To Memphis - and that will take a bit longer, about ten hours, so we'll break the journey and stay overnight in Springfield.
"So what is the purpose of these visits ?", Novius asked.
"Well, as I think you know, much of our money in 'Vegas is made in Hotels, which also offer gambling and entertainment.
Now at the moment the entertainment side of the business is underdeveloped, unlike the gambling and the hotels and restaurants - and since I've been away, the 'California Combat Club' has not been very active - and that is also a source of gambling revenue.
So... Kurt has had some scouts out, and thinks there might be some new talent in the high-school wrestling scene in Kansas... so that needs checking out.
Glen Wrestling
And then, of course, there's Glen - he used to be a high school wrestler - at least that's a memory that Faunus gave him - so I'm sure that he'll enjoy attending some competitions, and giving us his opinions.
And when we get back, Faunus will doubtless recruit him for the 'California Combat Club' - where he can give young Brody a good beating."
Brody - 'Combat Club'
And the 'Boss' paused for a moment, relishing the possibility of such a meeting.
"Now entertainment, in this culture, consists very much of 'popular' music, and the music here is very much influenced by the musical traditions of Europe.
For us, of course, coming from a very 'alien' musical culture, the music of America has very little meaning, however, in America there are mainly two very different kinds of music.
The wealthy educated upper classes favor (in public at least) what they call ballets, operas and symphony concerts, but real American music, for the majority, has its origins in the folk-music of Europe.
Eventually, those European folk traditions went their own ways, and produced the huge variety of American 'folk' music styles.
One of the problems with American popular music is the fact that there are so many styles - and so we have 'bluegrass' (Appalachian music), 'country music', 'gospel', 'old time music', 'Appalachian folk', 'Cowboy' songs, and 'blues' to name only some styles.
I don't really understand much of this - but I have advisers who tell me what is popular.
And of course, in music, as in sport and the movies it is, as it has always been, sex that sells - and so we have been told about an attractive young man who is starting out in Memphis, and who just needs good managers - like us.", the 'Boss' said, smiling.
"I see...", Novius said, "Still thinking about a good profit, Gnæus !".
"Of course...
With the supply of Mayan artifacts coming from Mexico dwindling by the year, we need to spread our net wider, and now, with the 'boy's to help, we can recoup our losses - and here, in America, there are practically no restrictions on our financial dealings - unlike before.", the 'Boss' explained, and Novius nodded in agreement.
Sundance Helicopter Crash
"So now we know where we are going, and why...", Faunus said, "but I think the 'boys' might be disappointed - I think they quite like it here."
"Well, that's a shame, but it can't be helped - and I think really they will be pleased to eventually get back to 'Vegas and LA - more their kind of cities - and in a way it is 'home' to them, and hopefully will seem like 'home' to Glen also - in time.", the 'Boss' said.
"Oh, and one more thing... there was a report on the news today about a helicopter crash in the Southwest...
Mechanical failure, or pilot error - so they think.
Fortunately only the pilot was in the 'copter - but he didn't survive.
I'll leave it to you to work out what happened - but don't tell the 'boys'.", the 'Boss' added.
"I see...", said Novius, who was not really surprised to hear the news.
"Now tonight I have a surprise for the boys... a trip to see a movie !", the 'Boss' said, trying to lighten the mood.

The 'boys' were surprised, because dinner was early that night - and they were a little disappointed because the 'Boss' told them that they would have to be moving on the following morning.
Pressure of business was the excuse that he gave them - and, in a way, it was the truth.
"But now, 'boys', I have a little treat - maybe even a 'surprise' - for you, and particularly for Ethan.", the 'Boss' announced - and at that Ethan began to perk up.
"Tonight it will be an 'old-fashioned' night.
A trip out for the four of you, and myself - but I will mainly be there to be your driver - and we can take Teddy as well, as long as he behaves himself.", the 'Boss' continued, obviously relishing the possibility of a surprise.
"So tell us...", Ethan said.
"Well first things first.
Tonight I have hired a movie house - just a small one - but just for us.
Our own private little show.
It's a movie, and I know that you won't mind that I chose it specially for Ethan.", the 'Boss' went on, ratcheting up the tension.
"Oh no... not 'Bambi' again !", Jim groaned.
"No... but you must just wait and see.
So get properly dressed, and meet me in reception - we're going in the Cadillac.", the 'Boss' concluded, rising from the dinner table.
The Mayan
And so later, they all piled into the Cadillac, with Teddy in his Walmart bag, and the 'Boss' drove them sedately through the streets of Denver.
And then they saw the huge, brightly illuminated neon sign.
"Oh my god !", Ethan cried out.
"The 'Mayan'... a movie house called the 'Mayan' !", Jim said in astonishment.
Josh was also quietly amazed - but of course Glen didn't really understand what all the fuss was about.
"Thought you'd like it.", the 'Boss' said, smiling to himself.
"And is it like Mayan style inside ?", Ethan asked excitedly.
"Yes...", the 'Boss replied.
"And there's Sharp Cheddar Cheese Popcorn 'on the house' when we get there.",the 'Boss' added.
And so the doors were opened for them, the snacks were provided, and they didn't have to pay for anything !
The Movie
Soon they were settled in their seats, and the movie started.
"Wowey...! - how did you know I hadn't seen this ?", Ethan asked the 'Boss'.
"I just knew...", the 'Boss' replied.
And that was the last thing anyone said for a long, long time.
And yes, there is an 'Art Deco' cinema in Denver, and it is called the 'Mayan'.
Teddy, of course pretended that it was a movie just for the kids, but if he had proper 'tear-ducts' he would have been crying when it seemed that 'Tink' might die, and of course Teddy does 'believe in fairies' after all, he nearly is one himself.
And at the end of the evening they all went to McDonalds, on 16th Street, for the obligatory Cheeseburger and Pepsi Max.
And so 'a good night was had by all' - even the 'Boss' - and it was their last night in Denver.

And so they move on - fast approaching the end of their 'road trip' before their eventual return to Las Vegas - and why Kansas ? - Well, Kurt got a message that there's a rumour of an  up and coming young guy on the High School Wrestling scene that might be ideal for the 'Combat  Club' - but not knowing the name of the High School or the town - how are they to find this handsome farm-boy ?
