Part 2 - Book 3 - Chapter 12 - Visiting Novius

after checking out Caesars Palace in 'Vegas,  Ethan and 'Sigi' take the   Interstate 15 and visit Novius, the kittens, Jim and Tony at the Villa Athena - initially to 'quiz' Novius on the links between Mexico and Spain - but later their conversation moves to matters relating to Tony Stark, Ashraf, the sarcophagus and the 'aliens'.
And so Ethan, with Teddy, and with 'Sigi' driving, made their way from the 'Athena Park Hotel' in Paradise, Las Vegas, in order to visit Novius, but on the way they decided to call in at 'Caesars' Palace' to check out the 'kitsch' that Jim had mentioned, and also the theater that Ethan had been told about by some of the musicians at the 'Park Theater'.
The Las Vegas Strip is a stretch of 'Las Vegas Boulevard South' in Clark County, Nevada, that is known for its concentration of resort hotels and casinos. 'The Strip', as it is known, is about four and a half miles  long, and is immediately south of the Las Vegas city limits in the unincorporated area known as 'Paradise' in Clark County.

'Caesars Palace' is a luxury hotel and Casino, situated on the west side of the 'Las Vegas Strip', between 'Bellagio' and 'The Mirage', and is is one of Las Vegas's largest and best known landmarks. An opulent facility that is intended to give guests a sense of life during the Roman Empire (?), it contains many statues, columns and iconography reminiscent of the ancient Roman period, including a twenty foot  statue of the 'Emperor' Octavian Augustus Caesar. The hotel has over three thousand rooms and suites.
Because the hotel and casino had seen 'better days', Jim had instructed Franklin to make 'an offer that they could not refuse' to the owners, 'Eldorado Resorts' - and at the time of Ethan's visit, Franklin was already undertaking the legal and financial formalities in order to pass ownership of 'Caesars Palace' to the 'Athena Corporation'.

Caesars Palace - Las Vegas - Nevada - USA
"Well this looks pretty Roman...", Ethan commented, as they drove up to the obviously imposing, palatial and 'imperial' entrance.
"Yes... well if anybody would know it should be you...", 'Sigi' remarked.
"So should I stay in this little car ?", Teddy asked.
"It's little, Teddy, but it's fast !", 'Sigi' retorted.
"Yes, but that's because it's little.", Teddy replied, determined to have the last word.
"No Teddy - you come with us.
Caesars Palace Reception - Las Vegas - Nevada - USA
They've got to get used to a very special teddy-bear sooner or later." Ethan replied, trying to calm Teddy down with a compliment.
"My ! It's bright in here...", Ethan exclaimed, fumbling for his sunglasses as they entered the huge marble and mosaic encrusted reception area.
"And I really don't like the swirly designs on the floor.", Ethan added, as he strode up to one of the receptionists, and sat Teddy on the seemingly endless reception desk.
"Can I help you, young man ?", the female receptionist asked, looking strangely at Teddy.
"Perhaps you are looking for your parents ?", she added.
"Er no - my parents are undoubtedly long dead.", Ethan replied, sounding puzzled.
"I'm Ethan Duncan - soon to be a co-owner of this establishment-thingy, and this is Mr Brandt and Teddy, my associates - and we were hoping to inspect the theater here...", Ethan continued.
The receptionist was in two minds as to whether or not to call security.
"You are a guest staying here ?", she then asked, trying to clarify matters.
"No - I just need to check out the theater, as I will be staging some concerts here.", Ethan explained, fast becoming exasperated.
"Perhaps you should speak to one of our under-managers.", the receptionist suggested, by then becoming quite alarmed.
"Why not ?", Ethan responded.
And so an under-manager was called...
Ethan then explained the situation, and provided the bemused under-manager with Franklin's cell-phone number.
"That'll teach him !", Ethan said to 'Sigi'.
It was some considerable time before the under-manager came off his cell-phone - and returned to speak to Ethan.
"Of course, Sir - allow me to escort you, and your associates.", the under-manager muttered - giving the receptionist a withering look.
And so they followed the under-manager to the theater - inappropriately called the 'Colosseum' - inappropriate for a number of reasons...
Colosseum - Rome - Reconstruction
The huge amphitheater in Rome - built by the Flavian Emperors - between 69 AD and 81 AD, with modifications carried out between 81 AD and 96 AD - and  now generally called the 'Colosseum', was originally called the 'Amphitheatrum Caesareum', but was first called the Colosseum in the 6th century AD. Subsequently  classicists and archaeologists referred to it as the 'Flavian Amphitheater', for obvious reasons. The name 'Colosseum' is believed to be derived from a colossal bronze sculpture of the Emperor Nero  as a solar deity which was was moved to a position beside the 'Amphitheatrum Caesareum' by the Emperor Hadrian.
What is now called the 'Colosseum', in Rome, is far larger than the so called 'Colosseum' at 'Caesars Palace', which is not an amphitheater, but a 'theater', and is not, therefore, an oval structure.
But no matter -  Ethan had never seen the completed real 'Amphitheatrum Caesareum' in Rome, so he could not make a comparison, however, the 'Colosseum' at 'Caesars Palace' wasn't even as large as Gracchus' amphitheater in Baiae - an amphitheater that Ethan had regularly attended with Jim (Marcus) and the others (see image below).
Zeus and Ganymede - Roman Mime - Amphitheater - Baiae

While Roman amphitheaters were primarily venues for gladiatorial and sporting contests, they also served as venues for general entertainment. The Romans also had theaters, primarily for the performance of Greek plays. Mime (mimius) was an important aspect of Roman theater from its earliest times - often featuring as an interlude between more 'serious' dramas.  It gradually began to become the sole dramatic event, and in the following century received technical advances, and during the Empire mime became the predominant Roman drama. The mime was distinguished from other dramas by its absence of masks. Often mimes formed part of the program presented in amphitheaters, featuring as interludes between contest between gladiators, boxers and wrestlers. It was common for mimes to depict mythological tales, and by modern standards were often sexually explicit in content, and featured nudity. For this reason mime artist often occupied the lowest of positions in Roman society.  In the image above, Gracchus, ('the Boss'), and Aurarius (Ethan), can be seen in the 'Pulvinar', (the Imperial Box), in the amphitheater at Baiae.

In the above image, Γανυμήδης (Ganymede) is a boy whose homeland was Troy. Homer describes Ganymede as the most beautiful of mortals, who was abducted to serve as Zeus's cup-bearer. The myth was a model for the Greek social custom of 'paiderastía', the romantic relationship between an adult male and an adolescent male. The Latin form of the name Ganymede was Catamitus, from which the English word 'catamite' is derived.
Colosseum Theater - Caesars Palace - Las Vegas - Nevada
After having finished his 'phone conversation, the young under-manager said very little, presumably unnerved by the experience of having just had a chat with Franklin, but he was undoubtedly being careful, as presumably Franklin had made it clear that Ethan was a member of the top management of  the 'Athena Corporation', which was known to be seemingly 'buying up' La Vegas - and so it appeared that this young man, carrying a very fluffy teddy-bear, might soon be his 'boss'.
And so they were taken up to one of the top tiers of seating so that they could get a good overall view of the theater.
Park Theater - Paradise - Las Vegas - Nevada
"Well I like it...", 'Sigi' said.
"Yes... so do I - but Teddy, can you give is some figures - like to make a comparison-thingy ?", Ethan said.
"Well a bit...
The 'Park Theater', where you had your first concert, has a capacity for  6,400 people - which is more than the 'Colosseum' here, this having a capacity for only 4,100 people.
The 'Park' has a stage width of 135 feet - and and overall stage area of  150,000 square feet, whereas this stage has an area of 22,450 square feet, with a width of 120 feet - so it's  not as wide the 'Park', but deeper than the 'Park' stage.
"Mm... lots of figures, but they both seem quite similar.", 'Sigi' commented.
"Well I think the 'Park' sounds better - but we can get some experts to make an assessment later.
Anyway, Franklin's committed us to having this place, so it's just a matter of how we'll use the two venues- now we have two theaters here in 'Vegas." Ethan said - sounding very managerial.
Fortunately Teddy was able to wipe the memory of the under manager, so there were no repercussions resulting from Teddy's involved  comparisons of the 'Park Theater' as opposed to 'Caesars Palace' Colosseum.

After viewing 'Caesar's Palace, it was then onto the 'Interstate 15'.
Villa Athena - Antelope Valley
The drive on the Interstate would eventually take them to the huge 'Villa Athena' (previously known as the 'la Villa de los Jaguares').
The villa itself was located, in extensive wooded parkland, near 'Antelope Valley' - (famous for its poppy-fields) - not that the 'boys' would have known - as far as they were concerned it was just a place at the end of a very long, very straight road.
It was about a three hour drive from Las Vegas - but by then they were quite used to making the trip to visit the villa.
The Interstate 15 serves the cities of San Diego, San Bernardino, Las Vegas, St. George, Provo, Salt Lake City, Ogden, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Butte, Helena, and Great Falls.

Interstate 15 was built to connect the 'Inland Empire' with San Diego in California in order to facilitate tourism access to Las Vegas. It also passes close to the urban areas of Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside Counties, California. 19 percent of the population of California, and more than 70 percent of the population of Nevada live in counties where Interstate 15 is the primary Interstate Highway.

By driving to the 'Villa Athena', in order to speak to Novius, the initial  intention was to try to get Novius to tell them something about the Spanish in Mexico - and also about the Maya.
Now undoubtedly Teddy could have given them all the information that they needed, but such things always seemed much more interesting when Novius explained them.
Also, once at the 'Villa Athena', they would have an opportunity to meet with Jim, and Tony Stark and Ashraf, and also Ethan would have a chance to play with the kittens, Sekhmet and Bastet.
Interstate 15 - Nevada - USA
So eventually they arrived at the vast layout of the neo-Mayan 'Villa Athena'.
Now some people would find a meeting with Novius rather daunting and intimidating - after all he was, technically, over 2,000 years old, being the last of an almost endless line of ancient Etruscan augurs and priests - and he did seem to know almost everything about everything... but to Ethan, Novius was just a kindly, gentle old 'uncle' - and to Novius, Ethan would always be 'Aurarius', the handsome blond Greek boy with a Latin name, (a name given to him by Gracchus, a very long time ago).
Villa Athena - Antelope Valley
As 'Sigi's' Mustang dew up at the steps of the main pavilion of the Mesoamerican style 'Villa Athena', Novius was standing at the entrance, waiting to greet them.
Novius embraced Ethan, slightly squashing Teddy in the process - but Teddy didn't really mind.
"My dear Aurarius...
So good of you to come and see me.
I know you must be very busy, taking over some of Marcus' work while he is here with Mr Stark.
And this, if I remember rightly, is young Siegfried, our German friend.
Novius' Study in the 'Villa Athena'
So good of you also to visit...", Novius said.
And so they entered the cool entrance hall, and then Novius guided them to his study.
"So, Novius - how did you find your trip to Egypt ?", Ethan asked.
Novius thought for a moment.
"At times a little too hot - but very relaxing sailing on the boat.
And the temples - marvelous !", Novius enthused.
"But sit, and get yourselves comfortable, and I'll call the kittens in from the garden, and we can have a nice talk.", Novius said.
So Novius called in the kittens, and they immediately came into the study, via the window, and snuggled up on to Teddy, who was was sitting on one of the sofas, and started purring and licking him.
"They're pleased to see you, Ethan.", Teddy said.
As had been pointed out before, Teddy was telepathic, and understood 'Cat', which was the language that cats used when thinking - and meowing.
"That's nice...", Ethan replied, giving each kitten a brief stroke,.
Sarcophagus Panel with Inscription
"And how is Tony getting on with the sarcophagus ?", Ethan then asked
"Well it seems that it's more of a problem than Mr Stark first imagined.
Apparently, while he was at the 'Winter Palace', back in Egypt, he dismantled much of the outer casing, and with Ashraf's help he was able to translate many of the hieroglyphic inscriptions - but he still needs to do a lot of work on it, and needs to discuss things with Faunus and Marcus (Jim)."  Novius explained.
Then Novius gave Ethan a strange look.
"But there's something on you mind other than the sarcophagus - isn't there.", Novius said.
"Not really, Novius... but 'Sigi' and I were talking about Mexico - you know - where Jim is planning a visit quite soon, and we wondering what you could tell us about the place ?"...
"Well I have studied a little about Mexico - the Maya - and the more modern history of the country... very interesting..." Novius said, a little absentmindedly.
"So - to begin with, 'Sigi' was wondering why the people in Mexico speak Spanish, instead of Mexican ?", Ethan asked.
"Now that's quite a long and complicated story, but if you have a little time, I will try to explain, but first may I offer you some refreshments ?", and with that Novius called one of the Mexican servants.

In order to understand the connection between Mexico and Spain you need first of all to know a little about Spain in the fifteen-hundreds.", Novius began, as his Mexican servants brought in some refreshments.
Royal Arms of Spain

"The Spanish Empire was the first 'global empire', and it was also one of the largest empires in world history." Novius continued...
"At the time I am talking about, Spain and Portugal were leading European global exploration and colonial expansion.
Also those two kingdoms competed with each other in the opening of lucrative trade routes across the oceans.
In addition, the 'Spanish Conquistadors', operating privately, defeated the  'Mexica' of Tenochtitlan , Inca and the Maya in the Yucatán in the early fifteen-hundreds.

'Conquistadors' or 'Conquistadores' were the invaders, knights, soldiers, and explorers of the Spanish and the Portuguese Empires during the so called 'Age of Discovery'

Roman Catholic - Papal Arms
Although the 'Conquistadores' were small in numbers, they were able to defeat the long established, large empires of Central America  with extensive help from local 'native' factions, and took control of vast stretches of land for the Spanish Crown and the Catholic Church.
The 'Conquistadores' were accompanied by Roman Catholic clergy who were intent on converting the 'natives' to christianity - by force if necessary - and encouraged the 'Conquistadores' to destroy all evidence of native culture and religion, which they condemned as 'devil worship'.
In addition, the Spanish and Portuguese brought with them from Europe numerous infectious diseases, against which the inhabitant of Central America had no natural immunity.
These diseases caused the deaths of upwards of ninety percent of the indigenous people, resulting in great losses to their societies and cultures
The Spanish named the area that they had conquered  in Central America 'Nueva España'  - in English,  'New Spain', and that area later became known as 'Mexico' - after the  Mexicas, who were a Nahuatl-speaking indigenous people of the Valley of Mexico who were the rulers of the Aztec Empire."
Ethan then interrupted...
"So the Spanish Empire was not like the Roman Empire.
I mean... the Romans didn't interfere much with the religions, or way of life of the people that they conquered - but it seems that the Spanish wanted to force the Incas and Mayans and other people all to become christians, and live like Spanish people, and speak Spanish." Ethan said.
'Cathedra Petri' - The Throne of Peter - Rome
"Yes... and to answer my original question, it seems that that's why the people in Mexico speak Spanish.", 'Sigi' added.
"Yes... both of you are correct...
But it is important to remember that the 'Throne of Peter' - meaning the Catholic Church - was responsible for far more death and destruction in during the time of 'Nueva España' - 'New Spain' - than the throne of Spain itself.
It was the fanaticism of the christian religion that destroyed the civilization and culture of Mesoamerica - just as the fanaticism of the christian religion destroyed the civilization and culture of Ancient Egypt.
All we are now left with are the ruined remains of those great civilizations.", Novius explained.
Mesoamerica is a historical region and cultural area in southern North America and most of Central America.  Within this region pre-Columbian societies flourished for more than 1,000 years before the Spanish conquests of the Americas.
"So if this area was called 'New Spain', where did the name 'Mexico' come from ?", 'Sigi' asked'.
"Well Siegfried, that requires me to explain what happened after the Spanish conquered Central America.
Gold Escudo - Spanish Empire - New Spain
Native populations - the Aztecs, Maya and others -  were subjugated and heavily exploited to mine rich deposits of precious metals - mainly gold and silver - which contributed to Spain's status as a major world power for the next three hundred years .
The area was then known as 'Reino de la Nueva España' - the 'Kingdom of New Spain' which was ruled by a 'viceroy' on behalf of the Spanish Crown..
Over time, a distinct what we now call 'Mexican' identity formed, based on a mixing of European and indigenous customs, and this contributed to the successful 'Mexican War of Independence' against Spain in 1821.
By that time Spain had become weakened by all the wealth that had been too easily acquired, and had not been properly invested in the country's infrastructure.
Arms of the First Mexican Empire
'New Spain' covered a very large area, but the 'Texas Revolution' and the 'Mexican–American War' in the mid 19th century led to huge territorial losses to the newly emerged United States.
The first ruler of Mexico was Agustín de Iturbide, a Mexican army general, who was first declared President, and later the 'Emperor of Mexico'.
After a few years he went into exile in Europe, then returned to Mexico, was arrested and executed (?).
In 1824 First Mexican Republic was declared and General Guadalupe Victoria was declared the first President of Mexico.
Arms of the Second Mexican Empire
In 1846. the United States invaded Mexico and Mexico lost much of its sparsely populated northern territory, and the conclusion of the war was sealed in the 1848 'Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo', and Mexico saw a continuing period of political instability which culminated in a Civil War in which the Conservatives asked France to intervene (?).
The French Army then placed Maximilian Hapsburg on the newly established Throne of Mexico, as the second Emperor of Mexico.
Two years after ascending the throne, the French Army withdrew its support of Maximilian, who remained in Mexico rather than return to Europe.
Republican forces then captured him, and he was executed in Querétaro, along with two Conservative Mexican generals, and the Republic was restored.
Political instability continued, however, culminating in a second civil war in 1910.
Regardless, political instability has continued at a less extreme level, combined with economic stagnation.
And that, gentlemen is about all I can say about the history of Mexico since the Spanish conquest.", Novius concluded.
"Well that's very interesting, and at least we now know why the people in Mexico speak Spanish...", Ethan added, with a grin.
"Yes - but I should add that there are over sixty languages spoken in Mexico apart from Spanish and English...", Novius said, smiling.
"Well hopefully most people speak some English !", Ethan countered.

Caesars Palace
At that point the message about the arrival of Ethan, Teddy and 'Sigi' had been passed on to Jim, Tony and Ashraf  in an adjoining pavilion, where they were working on the sarcophagus, and they had made their way to Novius' study.
"So, Ethan... did you go and have a look at 'Caesars Palace', ", Jim asked, as he, along with Tony and Ashraf, settled themselves on one of the large sofas in Novius' study.
"Oh yes...
A bit 'Roman', in places - and very large - so I hope that you don'r expect me to look after it for you.", Ethan said.
Cleopatra's Barge - Caesars Palace - Las Vegas
"No, of course not.
We'll promote the best of the senior managers to take charge.", Jim explained.
"Good - because it's a very noisy, and gaudy place - and we need to get rid of some of the stupid statues - and Cleopatra's Barge, and the statue of David, who isn't even Roman or Greek.
As you said... there's a lot of kitsch at Caesars Palace", Ethan added.
"Of course - and I'm sure that you can take care of that... as I'm intending to make the place a lot more upmarket and sophisticated... ", Jim said with a smile.
"Good ! - because I prefer the 'Paradise Park" - it's more 'laid back'...", Ethan added.
"But enough of these boring hotels - what's happening about that sarcophagus-thingy ?", Ethan asked, changing the subject.
"Now that's where the problem is...", Jim began.
Armant - Luxor West Bank
"When we were able to dismantle the sarcophagus, we found that while the exterior was lapis lazuli, in the interior was circuitry, which appeared to be made, in part, of metal which Tony says is known as Iridium - and also mica

Iridium is a chemical element with the atomic number 77. It is a very hard, brittle, silvery-white metal of the platinum group. Iridium is considered to be the second-densest naturally occurring metal, and solid iridium is difficult to machine, form, or work. It is the most corrosion-resistant of all metals. Iridium is mainly found in meteorites, rather than in the Earth's crust.

The interior circuitry of the sarcophagus also consists of a completely unknown crystalline material, which Tony has provisionally named 'Armantium', after Armant - the location where the sarcophagus was first found.", Jim explained
Armant is a town located about 12 miles south of Thebes. It was an important Middle Kingdom town, which was enlarged during the Eighteenth Dynasty. It is located today in the 'Luxor Governorate', on the West Bank of  the Nile in Egypt.
'Armantium'  Crystals
Tony then took up the story... showing Ethan, Teddy and 'Sigi'  an image from his cell-phone.
"The crystals are highly fluorescent ...", Tony began.
"Fluor-whaty ?". Ethan asked.
"Fluorescent, Ethan.", Tony said, realizing that some simple explanations would be needed.
"Fluorescence is the emission of light by a substance that has previously absorbed light, or some other electromagnetic radiation, and it's a form of luminescence.
In most cases, the emitted light has a longer wavelength, and therefore a lower photon energy, than the absorbed radiation.
But while fluorescence is an obvious feature of  'Armantium', there are other unusual properties.
This element is unstable in some ways, emitting energy at a quantum level, but it is not possible to detect any radioactivity.", Tony explained.
"So it's not dangerous...?", Jim added.
"No - not as far as I have ascertained - but we need to be careful.", Tony said.
"Ah... but it's pretty.", Ethan observed.
Salt Crystals & Time
"Yes.", Tony responded, smiling -
"But what's really significant is that these crystals seem to be what are known as 'time crystals' - and before you ask, Ethan, 'time crystals' are arrangements of matter that repeat in time.
Normal crystals, such as diamonds or salt, or suchlike, repeat their atomic self-organization in space, but do not show any regularity in time.
Time crystals self-organize, and repeat their patterns in time, meaning their structure changes periodically as time progresses.", Tony explained.
"And that's a good  thing ?", Ethan asked.
'Well it may be, related to what the sarcophagus actually does...", Tony replied enigmatically.
"And what does the sarcophagus actually do ?", 'Sigi' pertinently asked.
"Well that's what all the problem is about...
Faunus and I, mainly because of what happened to Ashraf, think that the sarcophagus may 'stop' time - or - at the very least 'alter' time - but only for the person who is in the sarcophagus.", Tony explained.
"Meaning ?", Ethan asked, sounding totally confused.
"Meaning, Ethan, that time outside the sarcophagus will continue as normal, but inside the sarcophagus time might stop, speed up or even reverse - but just to the physical body of the person concerned.
"So, like with Ashraf, he physically he stayed as a teenager, and his memories, knowledge, feelings and everything else stayed just as they were before he was put into the sarcophagus.", Jim suggested.
"Exactly...", Tony confirmed.
"So  that was like 'suspended animation'
Physically he didn't age at all.",.
"Correct 'Sigi'!", Tony agreed.
National Aeronautics &
Space Administration
"Well that seems pretty boring !", Ethan said.
"Perhaps, but I bet they would like to know how to do that at NASA.
It would be very useful for space travel.", Teddy remarked.
"But let me see....
That would mean that you could use this sarcophagus to grow up real fast, or go back to being a little kid !", Ethan hypothesized.
"Yes - but you'd either be a stupid old person, or a kiddo who was far too clever.", Teddy suggested.
"Mm - it might not be such a good idea, this sarcophagus- thingy !", Ethan eventually concluded.
"But in Ashraf's case there was not too much of a problem - apart from the fact that he had to take time to get use to all the changes that had occurred since he went into the sarcophagus.", Jim said.
"So, to make it work well, we need to get it to make you just the age that you'd like to be - and then stay at that age - hopefully always.", Ethan announced.
"Well yes - that would probably be ideal." Jim agreed.
"So can you do that ?", Sigi asked.
"Not yet...", Tony replied.
"Well if not now - will you be able to get is working properly... eventually ?", Ethan asked.
"Hopefully - but according to Novius, we might need some help from 'them'.", Jim said.
"And who might them be ?", 'Sigi' asked.
The Sarcophagus at the 'Villa Athena'
"I would have thought that would be obvious...", Teddy said, sounding annoyingly self satisfied.
"Well maybe to you - 'Mr know it all' - but perhaps you could let us into the secret.", Ethan asked.
"Actually, it's no secret, really.", Novius began.
"Tony and I have been discussing it for some time.
It's obvious that this 'sarcophagus' did not originate in ancient Egypt - even if it is covered with gold and lapis, and is inscribed with hieroglyphics.
Small Alien Grey
It appears to be the product of an advanced, technological culture.", Novius said quietly.
"Oh no ! - you don't mean those 'pesky alien-thingys' !", Ethan exclaimed.
"And what's wrong with 'aliens' ?", Teddy asked, which was a pertinent question, considering he was animatronic.
"Well at first I thought they were quite cute, with their short little legs, and big heads - 'even thought of having one to replace you - but they're a bit naked like.. with no fur, and I don't like their hands with such long, creepy fingers - but at least the do what they're told, unlike some people...", Ethan explained.
"So where do we go from here ?", 'Sigi' asked, ignoring Ethan's comments.
"More testing, 'Sigi'.", Tony replied.
"Yes, but testing on who ?", Ethan asked nervously.
"Well, we've got Mickey and Minnie, and they've been 'busy', so we have lots of baby mice, which is just what we need for more tests." Tony said.
Walt Disney and 'von Braun
The mice that Tony was using for his 'Sarcophagus Experiments' were named after  Michael Theodore Mouse, known as 'Mickey', and Minerva Mouse, known as t 'Minnie', the longtime sweetheart of 'Mickey', who are characters created in 1928 by Walt Disney.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse
"And when do you think that you will arrive at  any answers about this sarcophagus-thingy?", Ethan asked Tony.
"I really don't know...", Tony replied, sounding a little despondent.
"Well let's have some more coffee, and I will tell you about some of the research I have been doing - before we went of to Egypt.", Novius said, as he rang for one of the Mexican servants.
H G Wells - 'The Time Machine'
So once the coffee arrived, Novius began to tell the group about his research.
"This sarcophagus, from what Tony has been saying, is not really a 'time machine' - as is described in H G Well's story 'The Time Machine'.
'The Time Machine' is a science fiction novella by H. G. Wells, published in 1895. The work is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel by using a vehicle or device to travel purposely and selectively forward or backward through time. The term 'time machine', coined by Wells, is now almost universally used to refer to such a vehicle or device.
The sarcophagus, however, seems to be  rather similar to a concept described in the past as the 'Lapis Exillis' - a substance, or in this case a device, for producing some aspects of  rejuvenation, and for achieving what may be described 'continuing youth', and possibly even 'eternal life'. or as the ancient Egyptians would describe it, life lasting for 'millions of years'.
Now in the past many efforts were made to create a substance that could be thought of as the 'Lapis Exillis', or 'Philosopher's Stone' as it was called, and such efforts were  known as the 'Magnum Opus' in Latin - or in English,  'The Great Work'.
The effects of the 'Philosopher's Stone', it was said, varied according to what version of the concept of the  'Great Work' was being described.
The most commonly mentioned properties of the 'Philosophers Stone' were the ability to transmute base metals into gold or silver, and the ability to heal all forms of illness, and prolong the youth and life of any person coming into contact with the stone.
Possibly the most famous mention of the 'Lapis Exillis', or 'Philosopher's Stone' is to be found in Wolfram von Eschenbach's story of  'Parzival'.
Parsifal
Wolfram Von Eschenbach was born around 1180, and died in about 1220.
He was a German knight, poet and composer, regarded as one of the greatest epic poets of medieval German literature.
As a 'Minnesinger', he also wrote lyric poetry.
His knowledge was extensive and varied rather than accurate.
Von Eschenbach's story of 'Parzival',  forms the basis of Richard Wagner's music drama, 'Parsifal', in which the 'Lapis Exillis' is described as the 'Holy Grail', and is given a superficial christian symbolism, although, its is given an overt extra-terrestrial origin.
Now it is my contention that this sarcophagus has an extra-terrestrial origin, not only because of the kind of technology that Tony has revealed in its interior, but also because of the strange events surrounding its discovery, and the fact that the pyramid in which it was found has mysteriously disappeared."
At that point Novius paused.
"So Teddy, do you concur ?", Novius asked.
"Yes, I do agree with your conclusions - but then I did help you with some of your research.", Teddy replied.
Glen in the UFO
Jim smiled.
"So, if  the answer might lie with the 'pesky aliens' - perhaps we could get Glen to try to contact them, and arrange another meeting...?", Ethan proposed - as Glen had always been their telepathic 'contact' with the 'aliens;.
"And where do you suggest this meeting should be held ?", Jim asked.
"Well, there was the meeting on the summit of the 'Devils Tower', in Wyoming - the meeting at Corona, in New Mexico, and then the meeting in Chaco Canyon,", Ethan said, counting them off on his fingers.
"Yes, that was also in New Mexico." Jim recalled.
"Yes, but if I remember rightly, the meeting that you had at Chaco Canyon was rather strange - and you were not sure if they were the same 'aliens' that you had met previously.' Novius
interjected.
'Upuaut'
"That's true.
And this is where it all got a bit confusing.
The 'Boss' thought that at 'Chaco Canyon' we would get a direct link to the Native Americans, or Maya,  and the aliens - but instead it all pointed to the Ancient Egyptians - and we met this 'character' who called himself 'Upuaut'.", Jim said..
"Yes, and it was after that, that everything seemed to go wrong, and 'the Boss' disappeared to Mexico, apparently wanting to get back to the Maya, and ended up dead.
And I think that was all connected to the meeting with this 'Upuaut' character.", Ethan added.
"So then where ?", Jim asked.
"Why not go to where we has a successful meeting before - Corona, in New Mexico ?
It's not too far from 'Vegas' - practically deserted - and ideal...",Teddy suggested.
"True.", Jim responded.
Corona is a tiny village in Lincoln County, New Mexico, located along U.S. Route 54. The population was 172 at the time of the last census. Corona is the closest populated community to a purported UFO crash in 1947. William 'Mac' Brazel, the rancher who found the crash first came to Corona to report the 'crash' to a few residents, before going to Roswell to tell officials there - and hence the 'Roswell Incident'.
"And if we can get Glen to contact the 'aliens', then we could go to Corona, and ask them how this stupid 'sarcophagus-thingy' works." Ethan said.
Glen's Apartment - Henderson - Nevada
"So how do we go about putting that suggestion to Glen ?", Novius asked.
"Well, if we set off to return to 'Vegas soon, we can call in at Henderson, and see Glen -  before it gets too late - let him know what we have been discussing, and see how he feels about contacting the 'aliens'.", Jim suggested.
"It'll be your first chance to see how Glen's getting on in 'Sigi's' old apartment since he moved in when 'Sigi' graduated from Green Valley High School." Jim added.

Henderson is a suburb in Clark County, Nevada, about 16 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas.

having decided to try to contact the 'aliens' regarding the sarcophagus, the 'boys' decide to stop off to consult with Glen - and then, hopefully arrange to return to Corona - where strange events await them.
